Rock n Roll

This weekend I participated in the Rock n Roll races. On Saturday I ran a 5K and Sunday I ran the half marathon relay with Maria (a cheer mom). For running both races, I got a "remix" medal. This was the first year they added the 5K option to the race. The Rock n Roll races are huge and there were 30,000 runners in the race today. In addition to the half marathon, there was also a full marathon. A 92-year old woman ran the marathon and broke the world record for the oldest person to complete a marathon. Amazing!
I completed the 5K in 31:32. I was going for under 30, but I have some work to do on that. Maria and I competed the half marathon in 2:20:53. We came in 78th out of 185 teams. We could have done better, but I was taking it slow today.

Bridging to Juniors

Today was a very busy day. After a race and two football games, Kailani had her bridging ceremony. She bridged from brownies to juniors.

Tonight was Girl Scout Night at Petco. Kailani, Kaia, Layla, and Mikaela attended and earned a patch.

Slide into Summer

Today we held our final PTO event at Heritage Elementary. We had to rally all of the forces and race some extra money to cover some outstanding expenses. We had the owner of Inflatable World come set up 10 inflatables for the kids to play on. We sold bracelets for $20 each (including a meal) and they could go on the inflatables all day from 1-7pm. The kids had a blast and I am tired!

Perfect Attedance x 2

Today there was a special award ceremony to recognize students who have had perfect attendance this whole school year. Kailani and Zachary both received the award. Kailani was the only student in her class with perfect attendance. Zachary was one of three in his class.
During the ceremony, the principal mentioned that there are two students in 6th grade that have had perfect attendance every year since kindergarten (7 years). What an accomplishment!

Annual Chalk Festival

Today was the Heritage annual chalk festival. I took the day off to help out. I volunteered to help with Kailani's class. I got to school early and drew out the outline of the flag. I was able to bring the kids from the class out a few at a time to color in the flag. The teacher chose Germany's flag, which was only three colored bands. Since it was an easy design, it didn't take very long.
As I was working with the kids, I noticed that no one had been working on Zachary's class flag. I went to his classroom to find out if there was a volunteer to help and there wasn't:( After I finished with Kailani's classroom, I drew out Zachary's flag (luckily it was Japan so not too hard) and pulled out the kids in his class to help color.
I am glad I was able to be there to help!

Strawberry 5000

Today we participated in a 5K at the Strawberry Festival in Vista. It was quite a drive (1 hour) for a race, but we like to do things we haven't done before. It was raining, so we got a little wet, but we all finished the race and received out medals. We walked around the Strawberry Festival for a little while before heading back home.
Before the race...

Kailani wasn't too excited about having her picture taken with Zachary:(
 After the race...
They had strawberries at the finish line!
Zachary got Legos for his birthday, so he spent most of the afternoon building.

Happy 6th Birthday Zachary!

It is so hard to believe that we are celebrating Zachary's 6th birthday! There are only 9 more days left of Kindergarten. My baby is growing up.
Zachary woke up to presents in his bedroom. He was very excited for his basketball hoop, ball, pirate Lego, and UH hat (he somehow lost his old one).
For his birthday, Zachary wanted to spend the day at Legoland. A few days ago the Lego Friends section of the park opened up. Kailani wanted to see that.

Zachary was excited that he could go to the driving school for ages 6-13! He did a good job driving on the course.
On our way home from Legoland, we stopped at Buffalo Wild Wings because they do a fun birthday celebration. Unfortunately, we had very bad service and didn't get to celebrate the usual way. Zachary did get a copy of ice cream though.
Once we got home, we celebrated with cake!
The birthday boys...Zachary, 6 and Koa, 2!

A Family that Runs Together...

Today we had a much needed "stay at home" day to get things done around the house. Although we didn't get everything done I wanted to get done, we did finally hang our race medal hangers. Now we can all proudly display our race bling!

Junior Achievement

Today I was able to volunteer in Kailani's classroom for Junior Achievement day. I did this when she was in 1st grade, but was not able to do it last year. I taught from the start of the day until lunch time. The lessons were all about the city and businesses within a city.
Last night while I was prepping, Kona helped me out:)

Good Bye Sweet Maddie Girl

Today, with much sadness, we had to say good bye to Maddie. We boarded her at the vet during our stay at Disneyland so she would be able to get her medication. When the vet opened the office this morning, Maddie was having seizures due to very low blood sugar. She stayed at the vet all day and she came home with us this evening. The plan was to take her back to the vet in the morning, but she didn't make it through the night. We will surely miss her:(

Pixe Dust Challenge

This weekend we headed up to Disneyland so I could participate in the Pixie Dust Challenge. Friday night we went to the race expo to pick up my race bib and then had dinner at Goofy's Kitchen.
We stayed at the Fairfield in this time and they had a Kids Check in area.

Kailani loves Chip and Dale

Saturday morning, I was up at 4am to start the 10K at 5:30am. The race went through Disneyland and California Adventure. There were a lot of characters and photo ops along the way, but I didn't make any stops. Unfortunately, I had to start in the last corral since I didn't have a qualifying time to submit at the time of registration. I had to weave in and out of walkers for a while, which slowed me down a little. My official time for the 10K was 1:08:12. Jason and the kids were at the finish line to greet me.

After the race, we spent the day at California Adventure.

Sunday morning, I was up again at 4am to start my very first 1/2 marathon at 5:30am. The race went through Disneyland and California Adventure, as well as out onto the streets around both parks. Again, since I didn't have a qualifying time to submit, I started in the last corral. It was very difficult to weave through all of the walkers for this race because there were so many. At least next year I'll be able to start closer to the beginning. My official time for my first 1/2 marathon was 2:39:37. I was shooting for 2:30, and I think I would have been able to do it if it weren't for the runners.
I met up with Becky and Renee before the race, but unfortunately I couldn't sneak into their corral.
The start line...

I received a medal for each race as well as a Pixie Dust Challenge medal for finishing both races within the qualifying time limit.

After the race we spent a few hours at Disneyland before heading home.

At the end of this month I will run the Rock n Roll 5K and the Rock n Roll 1/2 marathon relay.

My 2016 goal: Triple Crown - 3 1/2 marathons (Carslbad, La Jolla, and America's Finest)
My 2017 goal: Disney's Coast to Coast - 2 1/2 marathons (one on each coast CA/FL) in the same year
