3-Year Check up
Today Zachary had his 3-year check up with Dr. Chang. He continues to grow! Dr. Chang was impressed by how much he spoke to her and by how cooperative he was. He weighs in at 36 pounds, 8 ounces and is 3 feet, 2 1/2 inches tall. He had a hearing test (which he enjoyed) and a vision test. He also got a flu shot. He didn't even squirm...not one tear...not even an "ouch." He is such a big boy!

Go Broncos!
Today was the first game of the Broncos football season. Kailani was very excited to cheer for her first Mitey Mite game. She should have cheered one more year for flag football, but they couldn't find a coach, so they combined the flag and mitey mite teams. She is now cheering for tackle football. The girls did a great job cheering today and the boys won 19-0! Zachary enjoys going to the games and yelling, "Go Broncos!"

Mama Wants her Body Back!
Four weeks ago I started a program called Body Back. I learned about the program through Stoller Strides, which is a workout program where you bring your child in a stroller. Throughout the summer (since Jason was home), Zachary and I went to as many Stroller Strides sessions as we could. They offer them 6 days per week at 2 parks in our area. One of the Stroller Strides instructors told us about a program she went through (Body Back) and she was so excited about the program that she decided to teach a session.
Since I had been wanting to start a workout program, I decided to try it out. I wasn't exactly sure what I was getting into, but I knew that the instructor had finished her session with great results.
I've been working out with Body Back two days per week and continuing Stroller Strides on Saturdays. In addition, I've been working out on my own three days per week too. This week we had our mid-assessment to see how far we'd come since day 1.
Mile: improved by 46 seconds
Push ups: improved by 8 (from 2 to 10 in one minute)
Sit ups: improved by 6 (from 0 to 6 in one minute) - yes...I really couldn't even do one!
Plank: increased by 40 seconds
Weight loss: 6 pounds
We will do an assessment at the end of the 8-week session and do measurements to see how many inches we've lost as well.
In addition to working out, we're learning how to eat healthier. The whole family is following the food plan and Jason has lost 9 pounds just because of that.
My homework for this week is to tell 5 people about Body Back. I've already told many people about it, but I thought if I wrote about it in my blog, I could reach a lot more people!

USO Presents Sesame Street
Today we went on base to see a Sesame Street Show presented by the USO for military families. We had seen a similar show a few years ago, so we were excited to check it out again. The kids got a light-up toy and they got to watch many Sesame Street characters on stage. Elmo came out into the crowd to hug some of the kids. Kailani didn't like that too much, can you tell?

Miss Sunflower
I have had a few jam-packed days at work lately and picking Kailani up from school today was a great way to start off the week. She looks gorgeous!

Heritage Picnic
Tonight was Kailani's back to school picnic. I had to work a full day and Jason was working late, so we didn't get there until after 5:30, but we still had time to do a lot. There were hamburgers and hot dogs from a new restaurant that is opening up soon. There were also games and information tables set up. At the end of the night, all of the families spread blankets out in the grass for a movie.

Baseball and Brave
Zachary is obsessed with baseball! All he wants to do is throw a ball back and forth or swing his bat. I looked into signing him up for little league, but you have to be 5 at the time of sign ups (March). Since he will still be 4 in March, he won't be able to play for two more years. Coincidentally, a flyer came home from school with Kailani for a program called i9sports. I noticed right away that they begin as young as 3 years old. I looked up the information on the program and I realize this is the program I see going on at the park every weekend when we do stroller strides. So...of course we signed Zachary up for the fall season of t-ball. As if we don't have enough to do already, right?! Opening day is September 30. The season will last only 8 weeks and they practice for 45 minutes on a Sunday and have a 3-inning game immediately after practice. So we can expect to be at the field for about 2 hours every Sunday for 8 weeks. I think we can handle that. Zachary is beyond excited!
Today we finally went to see Brave. Kailani has been bugging to go see it, but because movies are so expensive these days, we wait until the movie comes to the base theaters, where it's FREE. The showing of Brave we went to was in 3D, so the kids got kid-sized 3D glasses. Kailani wore hers for most of the movie, but Zachary didn't wear his at all. The movie was pretty scary for little kids, but they did really good.

Operation Homefront
Today we took Kailani to an event for military families called Operation Homefront. All of the kids were provided with a backpack and tons of school supplies. She was so excited to go from table to table picking out her supplies. Her backpack was filled to the top! Thank you to all of the companies for the generous donations!
Lego Houseparty
Today I hosted a Lego houseparty. We had stations set up for the kids: large Mega Blocks, Legos, Lego coloring pages, Lego memory game, photo op, etc. We had a tower building contest, played "hot Lego," and made a Lego treat. We love hosting houseparty parties!
