Sports Fans

We got our fill of sports this week. Wednesday we went to a Gulls hockey game.
Thursday was opening day for the Padres. Unfortunately they lost in extra innings.

Friday we went to another Gulls game. Both kids caught a tshirt that was thrown into the crowd.
Today we bought a new car! The 2015 GMC Acadia we had was a 3-year lease and it was up. It was a better deal to purchase this time. We ended up with a 2018 GMC Acadia. When you find something you like, you stick with it!

Rebel Kids Easter

Today we celebrated Easter Rebel Kids style. We met at Otay Lakes Regional Park. We ate, played games, and searched for eggs. I'm glad I was able to get away from work for a short time to celebrate.

Urban Hike

Today the kids wanted to go on a hike. It was a little cool to head to Julian for the hike they wanted to do, so we found something local...an urban hike. There is a route around Balboa Park that takes you over 7 bridges. Some are really cool. It's a 6-mile hike round trip.

We started at the Rose Garden across from the Reuben H Fleet Science Center.
We took the first bridge (Park Blvd. Bridge) across from the Rose Garden to Balboa Park.
We made our way to the second bridge (Laurel Street/Cabrillo Bridge). We've gone over this bridge a few times for races we've done in the area.
Kailani is thrilled about all of the pictures. Our third bridge (First Avenue Bridge).

The fourth bridge was pretty cool; a wooden trestle bridge (Quince Street Bridge). Not as cool as Goat Canyon, but the kids liked it.

We took a detour on the route and found our own little bridge that wasn't part of the seven.
Bridge number five was the coolest (Spruce Street Bridge). It was a suspension bridge. The only one of its kind in San Diego County.

We made it across 5 bridges before the kids started getting tired and hungry. We stopped at Snooze for brunch and made our way back to the car. We'll have to tackle the last two bridges another time.
We stopped by the front of the San Diego Zoo to take a look at a brand new bronze lion statue that was revealed yesterday.

Carlsbad 5000

Yesterday the kids ran the Junior Carlsbad 5000 1-mile. They each had a different start time, so we had to hang around for a little while. We had some breakfast and watched the races. I picked up my packet for the 20K.

Unfortunately, none of the girls signed up to do the race with me, so I went solo this year. The 20K is 4-5Ks in a row. I ran with each age group race (men 40+, women 40+, 30-39, and 29 & under). It is a challenge to stop and start. There was about 30 minutes between each race.

Rosie the Riveter Rose Garden Dedication

The Veteran's Museum at Balboa Park dedicated a rose garden to Rosie the Riveter today as part of a country-wide effort to recognize all of the Rosies. Kailani was asked to participate with the Girl Scouts. The girls dressed up like Rosie and each put a rose in a wreath during the ceremony. Several of the original women who served as riveters during WWII spoke at the ceremony.

Kids Hike to Goat Canyon

We thought the hike to Goat Canyon Trestle was so cool that we had to take the kids back before the trail was closed. The kids are on spring break, so this was the perfect time to go. We only intended to go a few miles, but the kids made it 7 total.

The girls were outnumbered on this hike! Kailani wouln't even get in the first picture.

The love exploring the abandoned trains.

We took them through a few tunnels.

USA Championships

This weekend Kailani had a cheer competition in Anaheim. The girls did awesome...0 deductions on both days. Unfortunately, they did not get a bid to Orlando. They will be going to the USA Finals in Las Vegas instead.

The girls got to have a little fun too!

We met an official MLB artist. He had some really cool princess art.
The moms had fun too! Happy St. Patrick's Day!
