Blue Ribbons

I'm training for a 2 half marathons, so today  I ran 8 miles with the girls. We have such a great running group. There is always someone running somewhere. Before and after our run...

After my run, Kailani and I went to Heritage Park for a special event planned for the San Diego police officer who was killed in the line of duty on Thursday night. Although Officer DeGuzman was a SD officer, he lived in Chula Vista and his daughter attended Heritage. The mayor of Chula Vista and the Chief of police were at the event to speak and then we all hung blue ribbons on the trees to show our support for the officer and his family. Later on this evening, we attended a candle light vigil that was planned for the family. There were a lot of people from the community there, including all of the teachers and many students from Heritage.

Kailani and Zachary are collecting tsum tsum bracelets from the Disney Store each week. Since we go to the store a lot, the kids like to spend their extra money there. This week Kailani bought a large tsum tsum with a birthday gift card from Becky. With her purchase, Zachary was able to get one for only $5.

Wolf Den

Tonight was the first Cub Scout meeting of the school year. Zachary is now a wolf.

Another boy joined our den now, so we officially have 2 wolves. Jason started they boys on the belt loops that are required for advancement. Here are the boys learning how to tie knots.

First Day of School

The summer went by so quickly...and just like that we're back in school. We officially have a 5th grader and a 2nd grader. Kailani has Sra. Portillo this year for 5th grade dual immersion. Ms. Guinn is her English teacher. Zachary has Sra. Lagman for 2nd grade (who was Kailani's teacher for 2nd grade) and Mrs. Eddington for English (also a previous teacher of Kailani's).

 Zachary is in room 503 and Kailani is in room 703.

Tonight Zachary had a meet n greet with his football team. We had an enchilada dinner fundraiser and got to meet his coach (same as last year) and all of his teammates. Conditioning starts on Monday!

Last Days of Summer

We are trying to get the most out of our summer, so we headed to Aquatica today with Kaia and Layla.

Bowling

Today Zachary had a bowling event with Cub Scouts. The pack scheduled a few events throughout the summer. If the boys attend at least one event each month during the summer, they get a special award.

I had a shower for one of my friends who is due with her baby girl in September.

We headed to another Padres game this evening, but I didn't get any photos.

Play it Safe

Today we went to a Play it Safe self defense workshop hosted by one of my friends' Girl Scout troops. The kids learned how to protect themselves in situations where they are bullied, approached by a stranger, or even being abducted. All of the children in scouts earned a patch for attending.

This evening I met some friends downtown for a run by the water. We started at Spanish landing and ran 7 miles to Petco Park. I met up with the rest of the family, who was already at the Padres game. The other girls headed back to the starting point. We stopped for a picture in front of one of the hotels. The city was all decorated for the Pride festivities.

 Tonight was Ghostbusters night at Petco Park. On our way out we stopped for a photo.

All Star Week in San Diego

This week we were lucky enough to participate in all of the MLB All Star events. Although we truly enjoy having season tickets to the Padres this year, the sole reason we bought them was to be able to secure tickets to the MLB All Star game, which was in San Diego this year.

July 9: All Star Sole Pose Yoga on the Waterfront
Becky and I participated in the All Star Yoga this morning. I had not done much yoga before this, so I was looking forward to a new experience. There were a lot of people and it was in such a great place. We got a free yoga mat, t-shirt, towel, and bracelet for participating.

After yoga, I met Jason and the kids downtown to walk around MLB Fan Fest. There were some neat things to see at Fan Fest but there were also a lot of long lines.

 

As part of the All Star week of events, we were able to get free tickets to one of the concerts offered. We were only able to get 2 tickets, so Kailani and I went to see One Republic. It was her first concert and by the time the main act came on, she was ready to go!

 A local family who visited all of the MLB parks was at Fan Fest to share their experience. They wrote a book called "Let's Hit 'Em All" about their experience and the kids are now inspired to do the same.

July 10: All Star Color Run & Futures and Legends & Celebrity Softball Games
This morning we headed downtown bright and early for the All Star Color Run. The kids had a great time getting sprayed with color while running by the water in downtown San Diego. It was a beautiful run. After the run, we headed home to get changed. I had to help out at Broncos opening day for a few hours, but then we headed back downtown for the Futures (World vs. USA) and Celebrity Softball games. The Legends & Celebrity game was fun. Trevor Hoffman, Ozzie Smith, David Wells, and Rollie Fingers were a few of the legends. Jamie Foxx, Mark Paul Gosseler, JK Simmons, and Jennie Finch were a few of the celebrities.

July 11: Home Run Derby
Today was the Home Run Derby. So far I think this was the most exciting part of the week. We got to see GianCarlo Stanton hit 61 homeruns, which was a record (41 had been the most). It was such an awesome thing to see.

 

 We bought a passport book to get stamped as we visit each baseball park. There are pages to write down details to remember each game we go to.

Before the game, Fall Out Boy did a short concert on stage. Then, the Home Run Derby contestants were called up to the stage.

July 12: All Star Game
Today was the actual All Star game. We headed downtown early for the block party and parade. At Fan Fest earlier in the week, we won 2 tickets to the pre-game celebration, which included a Jason Derulo concert. Kailani and I went it since there was also a free gift. We each got an All Star game hat. There was free food, free drinks, and lots of activities. I wish Jason and Zachary would have been able to join us. Since they couldn't, we cut our time short. We didn't stay to see Jason Derulo. We headed straight into the stadium.

Rachel Platten sang the Star Spangled Banner. The Marines held a giant flag over the field. The stadium was fuller than we had ever seen. The game was not too eventful, but it was great to see some of the big names in baseball. We got to see David Ortiz in his last All Star game. We got to see former USD player Kris Bryant (now a Cub), hit a homerun. We got to see Wil Myers (our favorite Padre) hit a double. We also got to see Fernando Rodney pitch a few (we were sad to see him traded to the Marlins).
 

 

We had such a great week, but I am glad to have a few rest days. It's back to school next week!!

Last Day in PA

Our last day in PA was not very eventful. We had to be at the airport around 11am to drop off the car and wait for the bus. We said our good byes to everyone and headed on our way back to CA. After more than 12 hours of traveling, we made it home to San Diego safely.
