Today Zachary had his second Broncos football game. The boys played Clairemont and won 32-0. They are on fire this season!
This evening we attended our first quinceanera. Here are some photos of the "court" outside the church. We were unable to attend the church ceremony because of Zachary's football game.
Maria is a good friend of mine through the Broncos organization. Her
younger daughter has cheered with Kailani since they were 5. Maria and
her husband had a quinceanera (15th birthday party) for one of their
older daughters. We wanted to go to support their family. The party was
very elaborate; equivalent to a wedding. Everything was beautiful and
the kids had fun. Kailani stayed with friends and stayed the night at a
friend's house.

Losing our Beautiful Trees
The original planning of neighborhood included a rapid transit system that would span from the Otay Mesa border to downtown San Diego. Signs have been up for years in our neighborhood warning residents of the "future rapid transit corridor." I think no one actually thought it was going to happen. Unfortunately, construction has finally started on the project and we are losing all of our beautiful palm trees. I loved driving down East Palomar Street because it is lined with palm trees. Here is a picture of the palm trees on one side (that will eventually come down) and the now empty space on the other side. It is so sad...

Triple Crown
Today was the final half marathon in the triple crown challenge. The triple crown includes the Carlsbad 1/2 or full marathon (January), the La Jolla 1/2 marathon (April), and America's Finest City 1/2 marathon (August). As long as you finish each 1/2 marathon in at least 3 hours, you earn the triple crown. It's usually one of the challenges runners "have" to do. This 1/2 marathon seemed to be more challenging than the others. It was a nice run though, from Cabrillo Monument to Balboa Park. Jason and the kids came to see me finish. I finished in 2:44:23.
This afternoon was All Scout day at Petco Park. Zachary participated in the parade with his Cub Scout pack. Our Girl Scout troop decided not to walk in the parade. We all got to sit and enjoy the game together. Jason enjoyed catching up with Kevin. He just returned from a 7 month deployment.
Zachary has decided that he wants to take out the trash for one of his chores.
Alicia, Caroline, and I completed all of the triple crown races together.

Broncos Game 1
Today was Zachary's first game. They played South Bay and won 32-0. I think they are going to be a great team this year. Zachary pulled a few flags on defense and got to run the ball on offense. Unfortunately, Bronco season means I lose my Saturdays to the board duties, but at least we only have one playing this year.

Park View
Tonight we had dinner at Oggi's, where they had a special viewing party for the little league world series finals. Park View (Zachary's little league) beat Nevada and is heading to Williamsport. We are very excited for the boys. Because this is big news, there were several news stations at the viewing party. Zachary ended up on the news! Here's the link to the story:

Cub Scout Picnic
Today we attended the annual Cub Scout picnic. We had been planning to attend for a few weeks and were very excited about the event. Unfortunately, we found out just a few days ago that Zachary would have a football scrimmage at the same time. We stressed over the decision, but decided to go to the picnic since we had such late notice on the scrimmage and we had already committed to the picnic. We were only able to stay for a few hours because I still had to fulfill my board duties in the snack bar this afternoon.
The boys started off the day with a community service project for the park ranger. They went on a short hike and cleaned up trash. The ranger said in the future, we can return to plant flowers on a hill, which will be our pack's adopted space.
Thursday was Amira's birthday (daughter of the fallen SD police officer). She got a ride to school in a police car again there were several Chula Vista and San Diego police officers present to help celebrate her birthday.

Balboa 8 Miler
Today I ran the Balboa 8 Miler. I planned to run with Becky, but she ended up getting food poisoning and was not able to run. I finished with a better time than last year: 1:32:46. I was going for 1:30 and I came close.

Phillies are in Town
The Phillies are in town, which means we are supporting Philly for the weekend. We plan to go to all 3 games in the series. Tonight turned out well for the Phillies.
Today a public funeral service was held for Officer DeGuzman. They closed the freeways and televised the procession of police motorcyles and cars that spanned for over a mile. It has been several years since a local police officer has been killed in the line of duty, so it hit everyone hard. This photo of his family was on the cover of the newspaper. His daughter is a 6th grader at our school.

Busy Bees
We've been busy with activities over the last few weeks. School started up, and so did football. Zachary practices on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Kailani still has cheer practice on Tuesday and Thursday. Our weeks are busy! After practice tonight, Kailani's cheer team was rewarded with popsicles because they won a fundraising contest.
