Tonight we went to the Olympian High School football game to see some Rebelkids plan in the marching band. The kids enjoyed watching the band perform at halftime.

Girl Scout Sreenwriters
Today Kailani's Girl Scout troop attended a screenwriters badge workshop. They learned all about screenwriting from someone in the industry. All they have to do is write a 12-page script/screen play in order to complete the badge.
This evening, we celebrating another August birthday with a moonlight (full moon) hike at Torrey Pines. Unfortunately, the mosquitoes were really bad (not normal for San Diego), so we didn't spend as much time on the trail as we wanted to.

San Diego Book Festival
Last year, San Diego hosted a book festival. Lots of local authors attended, hosted round table sessions, and autographed books. The kids enjoyed it, so they wanted to attend again this year.
I signed up for a few round table sessions to hear the authors speak. The kids (and Jason) weren't too thrilled about those, so after the first one, they left to go have lunch. I attended another session and met a few more authors/illustrators. This type of event is right up my alley. I hope next year is even better.
Listening to Kadir Nelson speak. Kadir Nelson is a very well-known author/illustrator who has artwork at The National Baseball Hall of Fame and the US House of Representatives. He has also illustrated several covers of the New Yorker Magazine, an album cover for Michael Jackson (after his death), as well as postage stamps.
We finished the night off with a sunset hike to "Rock House" with the moms and kids. Kailani was the first one up the mountain!

Scout Day at Petco
Today was Scout Day at Petco Park. Zachary's Cub Scout pack attended, but since we have season tickets, we did not sit with them. The kids were invited to play catch on the field afterwards, and we ran into several of the other boys there.

Phillies in Town
The Phillies are were in town this weekend. We were able to make it to all three games. Unfortunately, the Phillies lost two of out of three. My uncle did catch us in the crowd on the Phillies broadcast of the game on one of the days.
I think there were more Phillies fans in the crowd than Padres fans.

Zachary tested for his purple belt earlier this week and he got it! Pride had a summer picnic today and they presented the kids with their new belts.

Boogie Boarding
The kids have been begging for boogie boards. I promised them I'd get them one before we went to the beach today. I found them at Costco, so they wanted to try them out. Becky also wanted to get a trip to the beach in before heading back to PA.
A few more pictures of our crazy animals.

Birthday Bar Crawl
I started off the day by running the Balboa 8-miler. This was my fourth year running this race. It's mostly road, but includes some trail. I haven't been training as much as I should, so longer runs are challenging.
For my birthday, I planned a bar crawl downtown. In December, I did an organized bar crawl with some friends, and it was a lot of fun, so I tried to recreate it. I made fun little lanyards with a list of things to do at each stop. We ended at one of my favorite places, Shout House, for dueling pianos. I am happy to have such a great group of friends to celebrate with.
