More fun in the sun

We went to Costco this morning to pick up a few items. We were too early for the samples:( Kailani picked out a few Disney movies...we've decided to start a Disney movie collection for the kids. Kailani mostly has the TV-based DVDs like Dora and Mickey Mouse.
Becky and the kids came down to play at our house this afternoon. There was lots of food left over from Saturday's BBQ, so we grilled it up here. Makenzi brought her sprinkler and the girls ran through it for a while.
All of a sudden Zachary loves to color. Kailani was coloring and Zachary sat next to her and colored for the longest time. We're still waiting for him to walk. He can stand really well and even get himself into a standing position from sitting...but no first steps on his own yet.

BBQ

We hung out at Becky's house today for a pre-Memorial Day BBQ. The kids had a fun time playing in the yard. George got a bounce house and some games just for the occasion:) Zachary ate an entire cupcake on his own.
Next door at the community center, they served dinner (waffles and chicken) and had Alvin and the Chipmunks playing on the big screen. The girls colored blow-up guitars and had their pictures taken with Alvin. We went for dinner, but it was too cool to stay for the movie.
Time to relax...

Poor little guy

Zachary is sick again...he's got a double ear infection and hand, foot, and mouth disease. We've been out of school for the past two days and will probably be for the rest of the week. Bummer!

Zachary's birthday party

We've had a busy weekend so far! Friday, Kailani and I spent the day at the beach. My school had a beach day to celebrate the end of the year and I took Kailani with me. We picked Zachary up from daycare and headed to the mall to have his picture taken. He didn't want to cooperate, so we ended up not getting any pictures. Hopefully we can try again next weekend. It turns out that he was coming down with something...he had a fever.
Saturday morning, Zachary still had a low-grade fever, so he and I stayed home while Jason and Kailani participated in the Chula Vista Community Fun Run. I was looking forward to that because the run was in the Olympic Training Center. I thought it was best to keep Zachary home just in case he was getting sick. I was worried we'd have to cancel his birthday party, but we went ahead with it anyway.
We invited a few people over...some from the military moms playgroup and some from my work. Zachary enjoyed his party and got lots of toys. He had his own ice cream cake and he loved it. I am glad we had some friends to share his special day with. I can't believe he's ONE!

Military appreciation day

Well...where shall I start? There's not many more weeks left until summer and I am counting down the days. I have used all of my sick leave and every week I am happy that I have not had to take more time off. Thursday afternoon I received a call from KinderCare that Zachary had a slight fever. I did not have to pick him up, but I wanted to before his fever got any higher. The daycare gave him Tylenol when they called and I picked him up about an hour later. Zachary has been coughing for a few days and has a runny nose, but he did not continue to have a fever. I took him to daycare on Friday, but rather than do my errands after work, I picked the kids up at 12:30.
Jason and I had a "date night" on Friday. It's been a long time since we went out without the kids. Becky watched Kailani and Zachary and we went to dinner at Roy's. We've gone to Roy's for every anniversary (in CA) up until right before Kailani was born...so it's been a while. Our dinner was excellent! We both had the Thai curry shrimp salad and the strawberry cheesecake for dessert. I had the salmon and Jason had lamb chops for the entrees. They brought out a special dessert since we were celebrating our anniversary. They also mentioned that "Kristie's parents say Happy Anniversary." I was surprised to hear that. Turns out...my parents had called the restaurant earlier in the day. It was a nice surprise. We had our picture taken during dinner and got a special Roy's frame. After dinner, we picked Zachary up at Becky's, but Kailani wanted to stay for a sleepover. She actually stayed the whole night. It was weird not having her here.
This morning we met Becky and the kids at park for military appreciation day. Our military moms group, with KPBS, put on an event for the members of the group. There were arts and crafts activities, bounce houses, tables set up with lots of freebies, and more. Kailani made a flag out of popsicle sticks, but we forgot it. Hopefully someone picked it up for us. Lunch was catered by Rubio's...we had steak and chicken tacos. The kids had a great time. Zachary stood up in the grass for a good minute or so without any assistance. He'll be ready to take his first steps soon.
Zachary got a package in the mail today for his birthday from Gram. He had fun opening it...the kids can never wait!
Tomorrow we're looking forward to a relaxing day. I may try to take Zachary for a haircut because he'll be having his pictures taken at Picture People on Friday.

Mother's day flower

Even though we didn't have a whole lot to do this weekend, we seem to have kept busy:) We hung out at the mall this afternoon and Kailani picked out a new pair of sneakers. Kailani had her art class and finished her Mother's Day gift. Her art teacher will be doing a class in the fall and in the winter that I plan to sign Kailani up for. She has so much fun doing art.
Zachary is getting so much bigger. He can stand on his own now for a few seconds. He can walk with his push car, but sometimes it runs away from him. He gets so excited when he puts the money in his toy piggy bank...he always looks for someone to clap for him.
Hopefully between tonight and tomorrow, we can stay home and get some things done around the house.

Gotta love Costco samples

Today went to Costco and both kids took advantage of the samples! Kailani always loves the samples and tries as many things as she can. Zachary joined her today. Let's see...what did they try? Gogurt, cream puffs, orange juice, carrot sticks with Pat & Oscar's dressing, popsicles...We got some Gogurt and Zachary had one after lunch.
The kids played here all afternoon and made a big mess!

Weekend fun

Yesterday we spent the morning at a kids expo that was at one of the military youth centers. They had different stations set up with information and activities for the children. Kailani did a few art projects, planted a flower, and jumped in a bounce house. We got lots of freebies. We hung around for a while and then headed off to lunch.
Kailani wanted pizza for lunch, so we were going to go to Pat and Oscar's...until she saw John's Incredible Pizza Co:) Becky and the kids had not been there yet, so we decided to go. Kailani played lots of games and I won her 400 more tickets by playing Plinko! She's much closer to her goal of 900+ to get the stuffed pig she wants. She didn't even care about getting a prize yesterday because she had won a small Hannah Montana guitar in another game.
After lunch, Kailani had her art class. During class, she finished her Father's Day gift and did a little more work on the Mother's Day gift. Next week is the last class.
Becky watched Zachary for me while I took Kailani and Makenzi with me to get our nails done. Kailani got orange on her fingers and toes.
We had some tacos for dinner and the girls played a while longer before it was time to get ready for bed.
Other than a few errands today, we've got a quiet day planned. It's back to work and school tomorrow.
