Weekend Fun

We had a pretty quiet weekend, although we did have some fun. Saturday morning we met a friend of mine at the park for family pictures. She took pictures of Kailani and Zachary at Balboa Park during the summer. They turned out really well, so I asked if she would do family pictures for us...we've never had family pictures taken.
Saturday afternoon, we went to a birthday party for one of Zachary's classmates. It was his first birthday party! There were a few kids there from daycare and they had a good time playing at the park together. I'm starting to get excited about planning birthday parties for Kailani and Zachary this year. We've never really done much for birthdays, but now that we have friends to invite, it's worth the planning.
On Sunday, Zachary started to come down with a cold; runny nose and cough. He seemed fine, so we went to Becky's house for a Scentsy party. This company sells candles that don't burn. They're more like scents that melt in plug-in warmers. They're supposed to be more safe for kids and pets than candles are. It was nice getting together with some of the other ladies and kids. The kids always enjoy playing together. Becky has a nice, big yard for playing.
Today I decided to keep Zachary home because he still has a runny nose and cough. He just doesn't seem like he feels good. He only has a slight temperature, so hopefully that won't be an issue.

Kailani's got the Love Bug

Tonight we took Zachary to get a haircut. Boys definitely need more of those than girls:) While Zachary was getting his hair cut, Jason took Kailani to Build-a-Bear; one of her favorite places. She made the ladybug they just got in for Valentines day...the love bug.

No More Ballet?

Tonight Kailani refused to participate in ballet again. We sat in the corner and watched. I'm not sure why she doesn't want to join in with the other girls. On a Monday, it's the first thing she talks about...and she brings it up when I pick her up at daycare. She wants to go, so I'm not sure what to do. At this point, I'm ready to be done with it. We left early tonight because we were just sitting there.
I was actually a little frustrated because apparently tonight was tap and I didn't get the message. Well...no one got the message unless they asked. You'd think the teacher would have made an announcement at the end of last class that the girls would be doing tap this week. I think we'll try one more week next Monday (ballet) and if she doesn't participate, she won't get tap shoes and we won't go the following week. We really have to rush around to get to the park for class and it's not worth it if she is not going to participate.

Legoland Kids Marathon Mile

Zachary and Kailani went back to school yesterday and they both had a great day. I called a few times to check on Zachary and he was doing fine. The teachers are nervous now, but they are glad he's better.
This morning we got up bright and early to head to Legoland for the Kids Marathon Mile. Usually it's called the "Keebler Kids Marathon Mile," but Keebler must not have been a sponsor this year. Oh well. Kailani ran the whole mile with Makenzi. They both crossed the finish line with Jason before Becky and I made it there with Zachary and Jaylynn. Zachary got out of the stroller to run across the finish line. The photographer was there to take pictures of the four kids. We were the last to cross the finish line:)
After the race, we stopped at Lakeshore for the Saturday craft. They were doing a special science day with stations set up. At each station, the kids got to try fun science activities. Kailani got a sticker for her passport from each station she visited. They even made a volcano erupt, which all of the kids enjoyed.
We're planning to relax the rest of the afternoon and I am headed out with the girls tonight for a much needed MNO!

First ER Trip of the Year

This morning I got a phone call from daycare...Zachary had a 102.9 temperature. While I was on my way to pick him up, I received another phone call that he had a seizure. This is the first time either one of the kids had a seizure at daycare. Luckily they knew what to do.
The EMTs were at the daycare by the time I got there. Zachary's seizure was over, but he was still out of it. He didn't seem right to me. I decided to ride in the ambulance with him. He continued to have a seizure on the ride to the hospital. They needed to cut his jeans and give him a shot in the thigh to stop the seizure. The EMTs decided to take him to Children's Hospital rather than to Balboa, where we normally go. After all of the tests they did, they found nothing wrong. Although he had more than one seizure, they are still attributing them to the fever. We were sent home after about 3 hours in the ER. Zachary seems to be doing just fine. We will be monitoring him over night and he will go see our pediatrician in the morning. He definitely gave his teachers at school a scare!
Kailani was upset because she saw what was going on and she knew Zachary was going in an ambulance. The teachers were able to keep her calm and she stayed at daycare until we were able to pick her up later. She wasn't too happy when she found out we weren't going to Chick-fil-A. She was able to convince Jason to take her with her curled lip and sad eyes.

Today we hosted a metup at Rohr Park; bikes and trikes themed. Kailani rode her scooter and Zachary rode his Toy Story car.

Princess Extravaganza

Today we got together with some of the other military moms for a princess extravaganza at "The Royal Fairytale." This cute little shop in the mall does special princess-themed events for kids. It was actually really cute. All the girls showed up in their princess dresses. They listened to princess stories, played princess games, got their hair done, and learned a few princess dances. At the end, the girls had an opportunity for pictures with Belle, Cinderella, Jasmine, and Ariel. Kailani decided not to have her picture taken with any of the princess. She had a great time at the event though.
This afternoon Jason and I headed to the "new" house for the physical inspection and termite inspection. Everything went really well; no issues. The house is in very good shape. The house is only 10 years old, and the owners have taken very good care of it. There are a few things we would like to change over time, but nothing that has to be done right away, except some painting. Hopefully everything with the loan works out so we can officially purchase the home.

Kailani's Winter Gala

This afternoon Jason and I went to KinderCare to watch Kailani's winter gala performance. The kids were all dressed in winter jackets, hats, and gloves. This was actually pretty funny since it was 80 degress today. The class sang Frosty the Snowman...except Kailani. For some reason she decided she didn't want to sing. Instead, she decided to cry and call out "mommy" the whole time. Last year she didn't sing the song either. Maybe next time...

No more free kids meals

Zachary tried on daddy's hat this morning:)
Tonight we went to Chick-fil-A for our weekly kids night dinner. The crafts haven't been too great ever since the new person took over for Ms. Joy, but tonight's craft was cute. Kailani made a turtle. We found out tonight that starting February 1, there will be no more free kids meals. One of the other Chick-fil-A restaurants stopped their free kids meals a while back, so I am not surprised. It still stinks, especially since we now get two kids meals.
Kailani and Jason have been spending some time together playing games and reading books. Tonight they played dominoes...Kailani was trying to teach Jason how to play. Then, Jason read her a few books before bedtime. After he went back downstairs, Kailani came over to me and said "I am going to miss daddy when he leaves again." It breaks my heart:( She is enjoying their time together.

Ballet and Tap

Tonight was Kailani's first ballet and tap class. She was supposed to be in a ballet class on Friday night, but due to budget cuts, the recreation centers have cut back on days and eliminated a lot of classes. I was able to switch Kailani to the Monday night class and she was really excited about the tap part of the class.
When class started, she became really shy and wouldn't participate. Finally, with about 15 minutes left, she started to participate. She is looking forward to the next class.

Tangled

This afternoon Kailani and I headed to the movies for a girls day out. It was the first weekend Tangled was in the base theaters. We don't go to the movies that often, but if we do, we try to wait until the movie is playing on base so it is free. It is expensive for a movie now a days. Kailani loved the movie and she enjoyed telling Jason all about it when we got home. It was a really cute movie.

Craft and Yogurt

This morning we headed to a meetup (hosted by us) at Lakeshore to do the free Saturday craft. Surprisingly, 14 moms showed up with kiddos! Lately attendance has been sparce at meetups. The kids make ice skates that the laced with a string. Even Zachary decorated one; his first time doing the craft.
After the craft, we all headed over to Yogurtland for a yummy treat:)
Kailani got to spend the afternoon bowling with Becky and the girls. She had a blast. She keeps talking about the bowling "finale" (alley).

A New Year, a New House

We got a call from our realtor today letting us know he got the official approval from the short sale department of the seller's bank. We are ready to move into escrow for the house! We're not in the clear yet because there is a lot more to do, but closing it tentatively set for February 11.

New Year's Day

To celebrate New Year's Day, Kailani decided to show off the brick hat she got at Legoland last night.
Becky and the kids game over to spend New Year's Day with us. The girls enjoy playing together. Kailani just gave Jaylynn a dress she grew out of and they posed for a "twin" picture.
