USD with Kappa Delta

Kailani and I went on a tour of University of San Diego (USD) with the Kappa Delta Sorority this weekend. Kappa Delta at  USD and SDSU offers a lot for Girl Scouts.

Kailani fell in love with the campus. USD has the best study abroad program in the country. Kailani is very interested in studying abroad. She really wants to attend USD. Unfortunately, since USD is a private school, tuition would not be free for us. Tuition and housing run about $70,000 per year!

Children of disabled veterans go to college for free in California, but the school as to be a state or University of CA school (SDSU, UCSD, UCLA, etc.). We have some pretty good options!

I finished the weekend off by running the La Jolla Half Marathon. This was my third time running this race, and I think it will be my last. One more half marathon in the triple crown series for this year.

I love pandas

At the end of the month, the pandas will be leaving the San Diego Zoo. They were on loan from China as part of a conservation program. Although they've been in San Diego for 27 years, the agreement with China has ended, and they have to go home. The San Diego Zoo was able to help raise 6 pandas during the time they were here. They are planning to leave the panda exhibit the way it is, in hopes that they can come to another agreement with China in the future.

Today the Rebel Kids got to play! We got them together for the annual Easter egg hunt at Otay Lakes County Park. They've become great friends. Just like the moms!

San Diego Spirit

Today Kailani's cheer team participated in a local competition in San Diego. There were no Summit bids offered, so this competition was really just for fun. The girls did a great job, but came in 3rd place out of 6 teams.

Beaches and Bay

Today I ran the Beaches and Bay 1/2 marathon. It was a beautiful course, but I was sick, so it was challenging.

Skate Park

Recently, Zachary pulled out his skateboard. I think he got it when was 4 years old, so it's quite small. When Kailani and I were in Anaheim, Jason took Zach to a skate park. The skate park is so close to us, and it's actually really neat.

I took Zach today after school. He mostly rode his scooter. He's hoping to get a bigger skateboard soon.

American Showcase

This weekend, we headed back up to Anaheim for the American Showcase competition. This was our last chance to earn a bid to Summit. The girls did amazing. After day 1, they were in 4th place. On day 2, they walked away with 2nd place (out of 6 teams). They were less than a point away from the first place team. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough for a bid to Summit. However...they did earn a bid to US Finals in Vegas. So we will be headed back there in May.

While in Anaheim, we did have a little fun. We got together for a Medieval Times dinner show.

Brown Belt

Zachary earned his brown belt today!

He also received a special recognition/award. At each belt ceremony, they present special awards to children who have had a great cycle. Zach received one this time. It is called a ta hau (spelling?) award.

California Sunflowers

Unfortunately, the kids didn't get to do much over their spring break because I still had to work. We made sure to spend my days off (Mondays) doing something fun. Today we went to the Living Coast Discovery Center, mainly because we wanted to see the beautiful CA sunflowers.
