My last day of work on May 27, but since there is another week of school left, I agreed to sub for some of the teachers at the kids' school. Today I subbed in 2nd grade. Zachary's class put on a play and I was lucky enough to be able to sneak away for 30 minutes to see it. The play was The Three Little Pigs and The Cheetah and the Sloth. The kids did a great job and I am so glad I was able to watch.

Placing Flags at Glen Abbey
Today we placed flags on the graves of military service members who are buried at the Glen Abbey Cemetery. Zachary's Cub Scout pack participated and earned a patch. Kailani wore her Girl Scout vest and earned a patch as well.

Dia de Amistad
Each year the kids' school hosts an evening of performances by the dual immersion classes. This year instead of an evening performance, they had a morning performance. I didn't want to take the day off to go to the performance because I had taken Monday off. Clear View starts a little later than Heritage, so I asked my principal if I could come in a little later than normal (I get in at 8:15 and school starts at 8:45). She told me to go to the performance. I found out that today was reserved as a day for me to clean out my classroom anyway, so I took my time and was able to see both kids perform.
Zachary finally decided to try out his birthday present tonight. He wanted either a bike or a scooter. While Kailani was at a birthday party last weekend, we took Zachary to pick something out. He decided on a scooter, helmet, and pads. Kailani joined in on the fun.
Zachary's class performed to the song " La Raspa."
Kailani's class sang the song "Chiquitita."
Today was my last official day of work for this year. I was hired as a temporary employee, so my contract ends. Both principals have told me that they plan to hire me back, but I don't have anything in writing yet. I'll have to wait to hear from them over the summer. School starts back up on July 20. The kids will be in school all next week. I've picked up a few sub jobs at the kids' school, so I'll stay busy.Zachary finally decided to try out his birthday present tonight. Happy Birthday Zachary!
Today I took the day off to help with the chalk festival at the kids' school. Both of their classes already had enough parent volunteers, so I volunteered to help classes that didn't have any parents signed up to help. I helped out with two 3rd grade classes. It helps that I know all of the kids! The theme this year was flowers. I was happy with the way our flowers turned out.
I was able to sneak a peak at the kids' artwork and take some pictures.
Kailani had her last Girl Scout meeting of the year tonight. Hopefully we will get the girls together a few times over the summer.
Zachary chose to celebrate his birthday at Buffalo Wild Wings. The wished him a Happy Birthday and he got to hold the flashing red light. I can't believe he's 7!!

Special View
Today we went to the Padres game. The kids each got a bat and ball set. Before the game, we got to meet up with our membership advisor at the Western Metal Supply Co. building. We had a really nice view of the field. We could hardly get Zachary to head to our regular seats.
We were hoping for a Padres win today, but we left in the 14th inning. Unfortunately, the Padres ended up losing after several more innings.

Award Ceremony
Tonight was the last Cub Scout meeting for the year. It was an award ceremony and Zachary earned a lot! Unfortunately Jason was not able to be there to present Zachary with his awards, but the Cub Master did that for him.
Zachary earned 13 belt loops; 6 required for the Tiger and 7 elective. He earned an outdoor skills patch for attending camp over spring break. He also earned a nice star patch for participating in a coupon book fundraiser. He was very proud of himself and we are very proud of him too.

His big bag of belt loops!
Walking across the fake "bridge" as he earns his Tiger and officially becomes a Cub Scout.
The Tiger patch is pinned upside down and can only be flipped and ironed on when the Cub Scout does a good deed.

Petco...Where the Pets Go
Jason was working tonight, so the kids and I went to the Padres game. We caught up with the Petco cat and dog for some photos.
Last week our washer finally kicked the bucket. We had Sears come out to fix it, but it wasn't worth fixing. We finally got a new set with a washer/dryer and I love it!

A Guinness World Record
This morning Zachary missed his first baseball game to participate in the Chula Vista Fun Run. We ran/walked a 5K (3.1 miles) at the Olympic Training Center.
Posing with some Olympic athletes.
This evening there was a special celebration at Balboa Park for the zoo's 100th birthday. As part of the celebration, the zoo attempted to set a Guinness World Record. They counted off 550 people who waited in line to be part of the record breaking event. Kailani wanted to participate, so she and I waited in line and were the last few people who made it in! The record we attempted to set was for the most people participating in a puppet show at the same time. The previous record was 250 people for a 1-minute length puppet show. There were people there from the Guinness Book of World Records and it was very official. People were watching to make sure everyone participated in the puppet show. In the end, we did set a record with a total of 508 people for a 2:45 length show. Unfortunately, some people had been disqualified for not participating in the puppet show. We were happy to be a part of it.
The World Record-setting puppets!
