I was supposed to be back in CA Sunday evening, but I ended up missing my connecting flight in Detroit. I had a 30 minute layover, which was clearly not enough time to catch another flight. There was a few of us who missed the flight. I had to spend the night in Detroit and take the day off today.I got back home around noon.
Since we had not gone to the pumpkin patch yet, we decided to go after school today. There was slim pickings, but the kids were able to find pumpkins.
Since we do trick or treat on Halloween, I didn't miss trick or treat with the kids. Jason was working, so we met up with some of Kailani's friends to walk around their neighborhood.

Mer's Wedding
On Friday morning I woke up bright and early and headed to the airport for
PA to attend Mer's wedding. I arrived in PA around 5pm. Becky picked me up and I was able to go
trick or treating with Jaylynn and Payton and visit with my Gram, Uncle
Gary, and the twins. Later on that evening, I was able to meet up with
Jill, Angie, Leslie (not in the photo), and Mer at the casino. They had all just finished
up the rehearsal dinner. I spent the night at the Sands hotel with the girls.
On Saturday morning I was able to see Jaylynn play soccer. Unfortunately her team lost, but they played well. The wedding wasn't until later in the evening, so Becky and I had some time to walk around the outlets at the Sands.
The wedding was at the Arts Quest building at 5. The reception was right afterwards across the street. It was so nice to spend time with all of the girls. I didn't even get a picture with Mer:( We did get some group photos, so hopefully I'll be able to see those once the photographer shares the photos.
On Sunday I didn't fly out until 5pm, so I was able to hang out with Becky and Jenny and see the Bethlehem Halloween parade. Jaylynn's Girl Scout troop had a float in the parade.

Red Ribbon Week
The kids' school always does Red Ribbon week near Halloween so the costume parade can be held on that Friday. The week started off with an assembly provided by the San Diego Police Department (Amira, our student council president and daughter of fallen officer JD DeGuzman) arranged for them to come. They had police vehicles, SWAT vehicles, and the K9 unit for the kids to visit.
Each day was themed to go along with the "Say no to drugs" theme for Red Ribbon week.
Monday: Stuffed animal day - Hugs not drugs
Tuesday: Yoga day - Namaste away from drugs
Wednesday: Western day - Cowboy up again drugs
Thursday: Hawaiian day - "Lei" off drugs
Friday: Costume parade - say "Boo" to drugs
I wasn't able to be at the costume parade, so I don't have many photos...

All About Me
Zachary was chosen as the student of the week to create an All About Me poster to share with his class. He was the first one to do the project because Kailani let the teacher borrow her poster as an example. Jason and I were invited to watch him present, but he would not do it. We even came back at the end of the day and he tried again. Later on in the week, his teacher was able to get him to present and she sent me a few pictures.
Here are a few photos from spirit days Kailani's class had because of how well they did with the Apex Run pledges. Crazy hair day and crazy sock day:

Flag Champs
Zachary's team played Eastlake in the flag jamboree today and won 12-6. It was a good game. The boys deserved the win. They had an awesome season. What a great way to end Zachary's time in flag. If he decides to play next year, he moves on to tackle!
*I don't have any pictures from today. Hopefully someone else took some!
Tonight was Girl Scout night for the San Diego Gulls. We have never been to a hockey game, so we decided to check it out. The kids each got a hat and a patch with the ticket package. It was a good game and the Gulls won 5-4. The kids really liked watching hockey and were surprised at how many fights there were. We are lucky to have so many things to do in San Diego.

Annual DIY Costume Contest
Tonight Zachary had his annual Cub Scout Halloween party and costume contest. The boys can only use cardboard, paper, and paint to make their costumes. We went online and searched easy cardboard box costumes an Zachary chose the Tide box. Coincidentally, someone else had the same idea!

Surf Camp
This weekend Kailani and I attended Surf Camp with the Girl Scouts. We arrived at camp late Friday night and stayed through Sunday. We stayed in a cabin right on the beach in Imperial Beach. Our cabin slept 16. We shared with a Cadette troop. The girls had such a great time. They surfed, boogie boarded, and swam on the beach. They also played games, did archery, and climbed a giant rock wall.
Jason had duty on Saturday. We were lucky enough to have our friend Becky take Zachary to his football game so he wouldn't miss it. The boys beat Balboa and are undefeated for the season (the game against Balboa was a forfeit since they didn't play all of their players).

They stopped at Yum Yum Donuts!

Riley's Farm
Kailani went on a field trip to Riley's Farm today. They traveled over 2 hours on a bus to get there. They put on reenactments of the Revolutionary and Civil Wars. Kailani had a great time. I am sad I don't get to go on field trips much anymore...
Zachary is the student of the week this week. Here he is working hard on his poster. His teacher asked to borrow Kailani's poster from 2nd grade as an example, so Zachary was chosen to go first.
Chick fil A used to have a weekly kids program, but stopped doing it a few years ago. Luckily they brought a similar program back. They now offer a monthly event based on a character trait. They have a passport that will get stamped each time they come. This month they painted a ceramic pumpkin bank for "creativity." They are already looking forward to the November activity.

Going Solar
We're going solar! We've been going through the process for a few weeks now, but the panels were installed today. We have to wait for final inspections and approval before we can start using the system. I am looking forward to saying good bye to $400 electric bills!

Aloha
This morning Becky and I ran the Aloha Run. This is the first year there was a 10K. I finished in 1:06, a little slower than usual, but I'm still happy with my time.
Unfortunately one of our Fit Miss girls lost her daughter last week to brain cancer. The family held a celebration of life for her at a local park. Kailani and I attended.
There was a balloon release afterwards and it looked really pretty with all of the balloons in the sky.
