20 years!

Today was Jason's retirement ceremony to culminate his 20 years of service in the US Navy. It is so hard to believe that it has been 20 years already! The ceremony was very nice and I am glad he decided to do one. Kevin was his guest speaker and had a lot of stories to share from the past. I know Jason is looking forward to attending Kevin's retirement ceremony in the future.

Cookies on Tap

Today I ran 9 miles with the Run Away girls. We were sure to include a gnarly hill to prepare for the Washington Street hill in the San Diego Half Marathon in two weeks. Running long distances is so much better with friends!

It's Girl Scout cookie season! Kailani set a big goal this year. It looks like she's on track to reach 525 boxes, which will get her a week of GS camp for free.
Tonight she did a booth sale at Ale Smith Brewery with Kaia. This weekend is National Girl Scout Cookie Weekend and the local breweries do something called Cookies on Tap, where they pair different beers with GS cookies.
After the sale, we hung out with Kevin, Kristin, and Jason's parents (who are in town for Jason's retirement) at the Brewery.

Cub Scout Fun

Today Zachary attended a pine wood derby workshop. Each year the pack offers a few workshops to help the kids get started on their cards for the derby. Jason and Zachary attended. Zachary's car looks good, but still needs some work to be ready to race.

Tonight Zachary's den led the flag ceremony so they could check some requirements off. Zachary and Noah carried the flags and led the pack in the Pledge of Allegiance and Cub Scout Law.

PACE

The kids really love PACE days at school. They get to have a full day of Art, Art History, Drama/Dance, Music, and PE. The best part is that I get to be part of the fun as the art teacher!
Here is a picture the music teacher took of Kailani on the first day she introduced them to the keyboard.

Here is Zachary and his classmates creating a story quilt after learning about Faith Ringgold.

Chihuahuas

Today Zachary got to meet his baseball coach. He's on a minor B team again this year. Each of the teams is sponsored by a minor league (AAA) team. His team is the Chuhuahuas, which is a Padres AAA team. His uniform shirt is so cute!

It's Cookie Season!

Kailani has been working hard at selling cookies this year. She was lucky enough to be able to do a booth on her own at 7-Eleven tonight. Jason's mom was able to come along at the second adult, so we could be sure to follow the GS rules.
Becky and Sadie stopped by to support Kailani and bought at box of Samoas.

Holiday and Rebel have become the best of friends. Rebel can jump up on the couch himself now. He is a whopping 17 pounds too!

School Fun

This kids have been up to some fun things at school. They recently had a Junior Achievement Day, where volunteers came into the classrooms to teach lessons. Parents posted photos from Zachary's class.

They participated in Jump Rope for Heart.

Zachary's class made a dough map of North America. We prepared the dough at home the night before.

Preparing for Valentine's Day

This morning I went on a 8-mile run with the Run Away girls. I really need to train for the SD Half Marathon in March. I was just getting over being sick, so it was tough, but I'm glad I pushed through.
We spent some time this weekend making Valentines for the kids classes.

Cheer Exhibition

Today all Heat cheer teams had an exhibition at Olympian High School. This was a good opportunity for the girls to get practice in a competition setting without being scored.
