Over winter break we decided to take a trip to the Grand Canyon. It's been on our bucket list for a while, and we wanted to do something small while the kids were on break. We headed out to Arizona on Saturday. With all of the rain over Christmas, there was a lot of snow in the mountains. We had a really nice, scenic view on the ride.
We stopped to buy chains for the car because there was supposed to be snow on Monday, when we would be driving home. We didn't want to get stuck. Out here, they won't let you drive without chains when it snows. The kids made a few snowballs out of what was left on the side of the parking lot.
Getting into Arizona...
We heard about this amazing hotel outside of the Grand Canyon, in Williams, AZ. When we arrived, there was a ton of snow. This was the first time the kids have seen actual snow. We've been to Big Bear once, but there was no real snow; just slush. It was super cold!
The next morning, we took the train from Williams to the Grand Canyon. It was 2 degrees when we woke up! It was about a 2-hour ride on the train. We got first class train tickets so we would have a nice big window view along the way.
We had some time to explore the Grand Canyon. Definitely not enough time! We want to come back.
We saw elk and deer.
We took the train back to Williams, and had dinner at the hotel.
The next morning, we had breakfast before we headed out. We wanted to get on the road because of the storm that was supposed to be coming. Luckily, we didn't end up getting the snow they were calling for.
