Last Day of T-Ball
Yesterday was Zachary's last day of t-ball. Since I went back to work I haven't been able to take him, so I took off early yesterday to be able to go along. He had a good time and enjoyed hitting and catching the ball. At the end of practice, the coach gave each of the kids a popsicle as a surprise. The fall classes at the rec centers start in a few weeks. I already signed Zachary up for the next session of soccer/t-ball. This time it's at another rec center, so it will be nice too see how it differs from his last session.
Tonight I attended a meeting for girl scouts. I was volunteered to be the "nut mom," which means I am in charge of the fall nut sales. I had to be trained on what to do. So...starting September 30, Kailani will be selling nuts for $6 a can. She gets a star patch if she sells at least one can. She gets additional patches for selling 25 and 35 cans. We'll see how many she can sell.

Roller Skating
We had to get up bright and early this morning to have cheer pictures taken. What we thought was going to be quick turned into an hour and a half out in the hot sun. Unfortunately both the cheer and football teams were waiting on our assistant coach and her daughter and son. We couldn't take the team photo without them. After about an hour, they arrived. We took a team photo and them retook the individual photos (the assistant coach had the hair bows we all wanted the girls to wear). I hope the photos turn out nice.
This afternoon we went to Makenzi's party at the roller skating rink. This was the first time for Kailani and Zachary. Zachary had skates on for about 15 minutes before he took them off. He never even made it out on the rink. Kailani tried really hard and we made it around the rink a few times. It was just getting too hard for me to hold her up as we went around. After about an hour or so, her skates came off too. Even though it wasn't so easy for her, Kailani says she wants to go skating again.

It's Officially Football Season
Kailani had her first game today. The girls did really good, but they did complain a lot about being hot and tired. It's pretty hot out today! The flag football team was cute. We did end up losing, but it was a good game. We'll see how the next game goes. She'll have football games every Saturday until November.
Tomorrow morning we have team pictures. Kailani and I will both be in the pictures. The coach asked me to be the "team mom," so I've been helping out with a lot of things.

Dental Check up
Zachary had a follow up appointment today to check how his teeth have heeled after the fall at Disneyland. He did such a great job. He sat in the chair all by himself and let the hygentist look at his teeth. He let her take x-rays too. His teeth are heeling fine and we only have to follow up at regular check ups. After his appointment, he was able to use his points to "buy" a toy. He picked out a Toy Story car.

Princess Tea
Today we had yet another birthday party to go to. This one was a princess tea party to celebrate the birthday of a little girl in Kailani's Daisy troop. We haven't officially had any Daisy meetings, but Kailani met Ashley the day we went to do all of the paperwork. They clicked that day and had an even better time playing together today.
I talked with another mom at the party whose daughter is in the Daisy troop. Her daughter is in the other Spanish immersion class at Heritage, where Kailani goes to school. The mom runs a before and after school program out of her house. I was talking with her about care for Kailani when the school has breaks that don't coincide with mine. Their first break is coming up at the end of September. She said they run "camps" during that time and go on field trips to the zoo, SeaWorld, etc. I might consider sending her there rather than using the YMCA for the breaks.

Pool Time
Today Kailani had a birthday party at the YMCA. She was looking forward to this one because she really enjoyed the last one at the YMCA. Zachary had a great time in the pool. The last time we were at the YMCA, he was hesitant to go in the water very far. I could tell that he's had some practice since then. He went right in the water and stayed in the entire time.
This was the last birthday party for the "KinderCare Crew." The parents were saying that after this, we won't see each other. It was nice having the parties because we were able to get the kids together regularly. Now they are all at different schools for kindergarten. We're already planning a play date for September:)
Tonight I was able to go out with some of the moms from our meetup group. We went on base to play BINGO. It was fun, but I didn't win! Maybe next time...

Yay Kailani!
Today Kailani got a special treat. After school she got to go to Toys R Us and pick out a toy. She's been avoiding sleeping in her own bed for a long time and honestly, I've been too lazy to be strict about it. When she started school, we put an incentive program in place. Whenever she slept in her own bed all night (without climbing in with us in the middle of the night), she got a sticker for her chart. I am happy to report that she got her 20th sticker this morning! She jumped out of bed bright and early...before 6am to report that she was going to fill her chart today.
I was trying to figure out what to do next because I don't want to keep relying on the chart to get her to sleep in her own bed. I suggested a sticker whenever she sleeps in her bed for a whole week this time. I was surprised when she told me she doesn't need a chart anymore:)

L&L Luau
Today we went to a birthday party for one of the little girls Kailani knows from KinderCare. Sleeping Beauty was there doing hair and make up. Kailani enjoyed dressing up just like Sleeping Beauty. It's been nice to have these birthday parties recently because she doesn't get to see these kids anymore...they're all in different schools for kindergarten. Hopefully we can all stay in touch after the last party next weekend.
After the party, we headed to L&L, one of our favorite places to eat. They were having a special summer luau with an all you can eat buffet. The kids were amazed with the "real" pig they cut up to eat. Kailani asked, "was that a real pig before?" I think it freaked her out a little because she said she didn't like it! While we ate, there were dancers performing dances from the different islands. The kids all sat on the ground and watched intently. Kailani and Zachary loved watching the dancers at the luau at Kailani's school too. There were some little girls dancing too, and during the performance Kailani said, "I want to be that." The kids did get a chance to go up and learn a dance. After the show, I asked the lady who was running the performance if she had a dance school. It turns out that the dance school is right in Eastlake. I told Kailani that we would look into it after cheerleading is over. I think it would be an awesome experience for her. I took hula lessons when I lived in Hawaii:)

Watching the dancers made us realize how much we miss Hawaii. I would love to go back, but I am really happy here in San Diego too.

Build and Grow
We have such a low-key weekend compared to how busy we've been lately. We decided to check out the Build and Grow activity at Lowe's this morning. Originally we only signed Kailani up because it's recommended for kids in first grade and older; but, once she got started, we decided to sign Zachary up too. Kailani had a great time building her schoolhouse photo holder. Zachary enjoyed hammering the nails in and got really upset when he had extra nails and nowhere to put them. They each got an apron, safety goggles, and a patch for today's project. Each time they go, they'll get a new patch specific to the project they did. I'll have to figure out how to sew the patches on their aprons:) I guess it will be practice for the patches Kailani earns for Daisies!

Busy Bees
It's been a while since I've had time to write...we have had such a crazy schedule over the past week or so. We've been busy bees!
Jason and I both went back to work last Monday. Kailani and Zachary both need to be dropped off at different places now in the morning. Kailani's first day at the before school YMCA program was on Monday. She said she had fun. Zachary had a hard time adjusting to being dropped off at school, but has a good time once he's there.
Kailani is still enjoying school. She'll just randomly start singing songs in Spanish. She only had to go to the YMCA program after school one day. Jason has been able to pick her up from school most days, which is nice. If Jason picks her up, she has time to come home and relax and have dinner before cheerleading practice. It's actually been working out pretty nice. Jason picks up Kailani and makes dinner...I pick up Zachary and we're home in time to eat together....then either we all go to cheerleading, or one of us goes and the other stays here with Zachary. When Zachary goes to practice he enjoys walking over to the pavilion at the high school where a few owls have created a home. It might be a little hard to tell from the picture.
Friday afternoon Kailani and I went to the park to meet with a few other girls who she'll be in Daisy troops with. She wants to be a Daisy because Makenzi is in girl scouts. We may have to miss some meetings because of cheerleading, but she'll be able to be more active once cheer is over. She had a good time at the park and enjoyed meeting new friends.
Friday night we all headed to Kailani's school for a welcome back luau. They had tables set up with hands-on activities for the kids. Kailani and Jason built a music box from the "Build and Grow" kits from Lowe's. Kailani participated in a donut eating contest. She just wanted to play for the donut! Both kids enjoyed watching the hula dancers that performed. We all enjoyed the dinner provided by L&L Hawaiian BBQ. We hung out as long as we could and then I took Zachary home to bed. Kailani and Jason hung out to play BINGO and to watch Shrek 4. I don't think Kailani made it much after the movie started:)
On Saturday morning, Kailani had a cheer clinic to go to. She spent 4 hours with the cheerleaders from a local high school learning cheers and cheer moves. She had a good time, but it was tiring for her. While Kailani was at the cheer camp, we took Zachary to a birthday party for a little boy in his class at daycare. It was at a park that has a fountain the kids can run through. We can't keep Zachary out of the water now. All of a sudden, he loves it!
Saturday night I was able to spend a night with the girls from our meetup group. Fifteen of us got together for a Thai BBQ chicken house party and games. The girl who won the house party received a package with ingredients and recipes. She catered our game night and everything was delicious. It was nice to have a night out even just to play games and chat with the ladies.
This morning I had some more time out to go to a baby shower for one of the girls I work with. She has a 3-year old boy and will be having a girl in September. Her kids will be about the same number of years apart as Kailani and Zachary. While I was gone, the kids helped Jason make breakfast:)
So far so good....We'll see how week 2 goes!
