Today started off with game 2 of the playoffs for Kailani's football team. The boys worried us a little, but they finished strong and won 43-6.
After the game, we headed to Balboa Park for their Halloween activities. It was very hot, so we only stayed in the park for a short time. We ate dinner at The Prado and then headed home.
The kids wanted to hand out candy to trick or treaters this year. We handed out a few things and then they decided they wanted to trick or treat. We went around to a few houses and then handed out a few more pieces of candy before heading in for the night.

Costume Parade
Today was the end of Red Ribbon Week at the kids' school. Red Ribbon Week always ends on Halloween week, so the kids get to dress up on Friday to say "BOO!" to drugs.
Kailani dressed up as candy corn and Zachary dressed up as a race car driver. I was only able to stay at school for a few minutes because I had to work at my other school today. Fortunately, Jason was able to stay to watch them both walk in the parade.

Sick Day
Today we took the day off! I am not sure if it was the constant snacking all day throughout the competition or a quick-moving stomach bug. Zachary woke up at 10:30 throwing up. Although he didn't have a fever, I decided I was going to keep him home anyway.
In the morning, I gave Kailani the option of staying home since she had such a busy weekend. She told me she was sick anyway and that she had woken up to throw up over night too.
I'm not sure what it was, but they seemed to be totally fine at home all day.
This was the first time I had called in sick for my new job. I requested a substitute teacher through the online system. Unfortunately, a sub never filled the position and art classes were cancelled today:( I felt bad for the kids, but I had to make sure my kids were healthy first.
While we were home, we took advantage of the time and carved pumpkins. The kids reminded me that we never carved pumpkins last year!

1st Place for the Lady Broncos
Today was the local cheer competition in San Diego. We were all up very early and supported all of the cheer teams as they performed today. All three cheer teams placed 1st. We couldn't be more excited! We will all compete in the regional cheer competition (in San Diego this year) next month.
Last night I prepped the gifts for the girls:)

Flag Jamboree
Today was Zachary's flag jamboree and final game of the season. Unfortunately, the Broncos lost 20-13 to the Steele Canyon Cougars. They played a good game though. Since it was the last game of the season, the boys were presented with a huge goodie bag filled with items donated by the parents. We donated Lego minifigures:)
We haven't had much time to do anything but football/cheer lately. Kailani's team had a bye today because they were one of the top 4 teams to enter the playoffs. Since we had the afternoon off, we decided to go to the pumpkin patch. The kids have been bugging us to get pumpkins. Hopefully we'll be able to carve them next week.

Songfest
Tonight Kristin and I took the Girl Scouts to the Songfest and celebration of Juliette Gordon Lowe's (founder of GS) birthday. Since it was so close to Halloween, we were supposed to dress up in costumes. We decide to go with a group costume and went as a rainbow:)

Broncos Week 8
Today was the last official game of the Broncos season. Zachary's team geared up for a tough game. They beat the Eastlake Panthers 19-13. Before today's game, Eastlake was undefeated! Zachary's team finished with a record of 5 wins and 3 losses. Not too bad! They will play in the flag jamboree next weekend.
Kailani played the Westview Wolverines. Her team won 36-0. Playoffs start next week. Since Kailani's team is one of the top 4 teams, they have a bye next week.
Since we were in the area, we stopped at the Mongolian Grill for dinner. We heard that they opened up an American Girl store at the Fashion Valley Mall. Today was the first day, so they were giving away a free book to each girl. We stopped at the store on the way home. Kailani couldn't walk out empty handed!

A Day of Halloween Fun
Today after school we attended the fall festival at the kids' school. The kids walked around with Jason while I helped with ticket sales. The fall festival was organized by the PTO and included games, food, entertainment, and trick-or-treating. The kids had a great time.
After the fall festival, we headed to Zachary's Cub Scout Halloween party. He dressed up as a Rubik's Cube. The boys played lots of games and ate sweets. There was a costume contest, but Zachary wasn't one of the winners. Some of the costumes were pretty cool. The overall winner dressed up like a transformer and he actually transformed into a car (all made from cardboard).

Running with the Girls
I've started up my 8-week sessions with Fit Miss (formerly know as Body Back) again to help prep for the 3 half marathons I have coming up in 2016. Several of us are also doing a Ragnar run, which is a 200-mile relay race from Huntington Beach to San Diego. We need to help each other stay accountable for our long runs once per week and we need to keep each other company:)
Zachary started prepping his Halloween costume for the Cub Scout party next week. He's going to be a Rubik's Cube. The boys were only able to use cardboard, paper, and paint to make their costumes.
We ended the day with a visit to the "rock park" for some soccer fun.

Broncos Week 7
Today Zachary's team played at home against Grossmont. Unfortunately, they lost 18-13. They were so close to scoring the final touchdown and winning the game. If there were a few more seconds, they may have pulled it off.
Kailani's team played all the way up in Temecula, which is about an hour and a half drive. It was a hot day, but the boys played hard and won 26-0. Since we were in the area, we stopped at Famous Dave's for dinner:)
Zachary had a fun time playing with the boys during the game. He's very much into finding money right now. He searched all the stands and left the game with $0.92 in change.

First Cub Scout Meeting
Tonight was Zachary's first official Cub Scout meeting. The last one we attended was an awards ceremony, so we didn't get a real feel for what it was going to be like. At the meeting, a K-9 sheriff and a detective came to share what they do at their jobs. The boys enjoyed that.
Zachary was the only Tiger Cub at the meeting tonight. I am not sure if he's the only one in the pack or if others just weren't there tonight. He worked with the Pack Leader on learning the Boy Scout Promise and the Boy Scout Law. He has to learn a few things in order to earn his Bobcat badge. Once he earns the Bobcat badge, he can begin to work on his Tiger badge.

Maker Faire
This morning we participated in the Rady Children's 5K. We hadn't participated in the fun run for a few years because it was always on a Saturday and conflicted with football/cheer. We were happy to be able to participate again. There were some fun animal encounters along the way and the kids got a fun medal at the finish line.
After the race we headed to Balboa Park for the first annual Maker Faire. It was a huge event inside and outside of 10 museums in the park. It was raining today, so unfortunately, many of the booths moved inside. The event focused on making things and inventions. There were crafts, robots, engineering, etc. The kids got to play and make lots of things. They got some really neat free-bees as well. The coolest thing I think was a personalized Lego. At one of the booths, a guy was engraving/cutting into Legos and he made one for each of the kids with their names. We spent most of the day at the event and still didn't see it all. I didn't get as many pictures as I should have!
