Happy Halloween

Today was Zach's Halloween parade at school. Then, we went trick or treating in our neighborhood with friends. Kailani went to a friend's house to hand out candy.

Reverse Trick or Treat

Today after school we headed up to the San Diego Humane Society for a special "Reverse Trick of Treat" event. Instead of the kids trick or treating there, they made treats and delivered them to the animals at the shelter. They visited with animals, played games, and delivered home-made toys to the cats and dogs.
Kailani cannot wait until she's old enough (14) to volunteer there.

SDSU Field Trip

Today Kailani and I went to San Diego State University for a school field trip. All of the local middle school 7th graders attend. This was an opportunity for the kids to see the campus and learn about the programs offered there. SDSU has a Compact for Success agreement with our school district. If students meet the requirements, they have guaranteed acceptance into SDSU. Although Kailani hasn't thought too much about college yet, she does know that she wants to be a vet. SDSU has a pre-med program that she could complete before going somewhere like UC Davis for the veterinary medicin program. Because Jason is a disabled vet, Kailani can attend any state or university of CA school tuition free.

While Kailani and I were at the field trip, Jason and Zachary went to the Navy/Notre Dame football game.

Blue Belt

Zachary tested this week and earned his blue belt. I am so proud of him. He's advancing very quickly.

Tonight I headed out to a Witch party my friend Wendy hosted. She has a beautiful back yard.

Spartan - Tejon Ranch

This weekend was our Spartan race. We already completed the Spartan Sprint and the Spartan Super in January. The Spartan Beast is the final race to complete the Trifecta. This Beast course was 13.4 miles and included 33 obstacles. It took us 9 hours to complete it.

The next day, we went back for more. This time it was the kids' turn.

Zach did the 1-mile race.

Kailani did the 2-mile race, which was actually 2 1/2 miles.

These are the professional photos taken by Spartan. They allow you to download them for free.

While the kids race...
The kids are looking forward to getting their trifecta. They have to complete 3 races in one year to earn it.
