Recovery

Kailani has been recovering from surgery pretty well. Yesterday she had a slight fever for most of the day, but Tylenol helped keep it down and she played like normal. The doctor called to check on her and said that a slight temperature is normal, but if it reached 101 degrees, we should bring her in. She had fever for the early part of the day today too, but it didn't get high enough to take her in. She actually begged us to let her go and do things. This morning we went to Target. They had a special story time to celebrate Dr. Seuss. They read several stories and gave out special goodie bags. The kids had fun, but Kailani didn't seem like she felt good. She kept saying she felt fine though. Next, we headed to Lowe's to make the #48 race car. It has a button that you can press to make car sounds. The cars were very easy to make. Kailani practically made hers by herself. She's getting good at these. Next week at Home Depot, the kids will make the Home Depot race car.
We came home and had intended to stay home the rest of the day, but again, Kailani wanted to go out. We ended up going to the mall to shop. I had a rewards card from Disney that could be used at the Disney Store. It was like Christmas...the kids got to pick out whatever they wanted! On the way home, we stopped to have dinner at the Souplantation. Kailani hasn't been eating anything but soup, so that seemed like the best place. She ended up eating everything but the soup. It was actually the first time she was able to eat like she did tonight. I was happy to see that. Although she's recovering quickly, I don't think she's 100% herself yet. We'll see how tomorrow goes.
Today we also signed all of our final loan documents to reduce our mortgage interest rate from 4.875% to 3.93%. We're able to save some money, which is always good:)

Kailani's Surgery

We had to wake up bright and early to be at the hospital for Kailani's surgery. She had her tonsils and adenoids removed. She was excited to get all dressed up in the hospital clothes. The nurse had her help type things in the computer.Kailani was okay up until the point when she was waiting to be taken in the operating room. She keep saying that she didn't want to have the surgery. The O.R. nurse was really good. She had Kailani decorate her mask with stickers. They used the mask to put her to sleep.
The doctor said the surgery went really well. When Kailani woke up I think she was disorientated, not knowing what had happened. She wanted all of the things off of her (IV, pulse monitor). I felt so bad for her:( Once she was taken into her own recovery room, with a tv and a popsicle, she felt much better. She is doing really well now. You'd never know she had surgery this morning.

Father Daughter Dance

We started our day off with another cookie booth sale. The two girls sold 45 boxes and 9 for Operation Thin Mint, so they each got 27. Kailani has set her mind on a new prize...the stuffed giraffe. We'll be doing another booth tomorrow morning and then we're done!
This afternoon Kailani had the "Princess Package" at Pigtails and Crewcuts. They do her hair, paint her nails, and do her make up. She was getting all dolled up for the father daughter dance. Jason and Kailani spent the evening at the dance and had a great time. Kailani made a bracelet and won a door prize (a fashion design art set and 4 tickets to the Midway Museum).

First Cookie Booth Sale

I had to work today, but Kailani had off so she spent the day at Becky's house. She had a great time playing there. The girls had a tea party:)This afternoon, Kailani met with the anesthesiologist to prepare for her surgery next week. I told him how upset she was about the surgery from reading the book the other night. He explained that she was going to be put to sleep with a mask. She is going to be able to choose a flavor for the gas. It didn't really ease her mind about surgery so I think Thursday is going to be a tough day.
Tonight Kailani had her first cookie booth sale. We sold cookies outside Vons grocery store. There were two girls, so we split up and each took an entrance. We didn't even ask people to buy cookies. The cookies really sell themselves. A few people just made donations. One guy asked Kailani what her favorite kind was and he bought her a box. She loved that! Together, the girls sold 106 boxes of cookies. They get to split the cookie sales between the two of them. With this booth sale, Kailani has sold a total of 124 boxes. She has met her goal. She has two more booth sales on Saturday and Sunday, so I'm sure she'll surpass her goal.

Noche de Amistad

Tonight the Spanish Immersion program put on a special show at Kailani's school. It was called Noche de Amistad, or Night of Friendship. The principal started by showing how well the Spanish immersion kids do on state standardized testing. In every grade, they outperform the kids in the regular English classes. It was very impressive. Each grade level immersion class did a performance. Kailani's grade sang a song about los meses del ano (the months of the year) and they did the chicken dance. I was very surprised that Kailani actually participated. She was singing and doing all of the movements. She did the chicken dance and danced with her partner. It was a nice evening. Becky and the girls came down to watch too.Zachary had the best seat in the house:) It's hard to see, but Kailani is right in the middle next to the kid in the red shirt.

Happy Valentine's Day!

The kids were both so excited for Valentine's Day today. They prepared their Valentines yesterday afternoon.
Kailani did jump rope for heart today. The school was trying to raise money for the American Heart Association. Unfortunately, she forgot to turn her donation in. Luckily, we can turn it in tomorrow morning. I donated enough so she could get a t-shirt.
Both kids had parties at school where they exchanged Valentines. They were excited to get gifts from us too:)

Chef Zachy

I had off today, so Zachy and I spent the day together. We didn't do much but hang around the house, but he enjoyed having all the toys to himself. He played with the grill and play food for a long time.Tonight Kailani picked "Franklin Goes to the Hospital" to read before bed. Now she doesn't want to have surgery:)

Phone Booth Fun

We've had a pretty mellow weekend. On Saturday, we went to Lowe's for the Build and Grow project. The kids each made a Valentine box. They really enjoy doing the projects. We took the dogs to the vet. She commented on what an animal family we are (we had just been there with the three cats last weekend). It just happens to work out that all five animals need check-ups and shots at the same time:) We've hit our limit on pets. Holiday completes our pet family. She was very sick last weekend and the vet was happy to see her doing so well this weekend; and so are we!
Saturday night I went to Bingo on base with a few of the military moms. I had a good time, although I didn't win anything. Each game is worth $200 and one of the girls did win.
Today it rained in the morning, so we just hung around the house. Zachary took a late nap, so Kailani and I headed out for dinner at The Blind Lady Ale House. We met up with a bunch of people from work. Kelly was celebrating her 30th birthday. One of the girls I work with also has a 5-year old and when I told her I was bringing Kailani, she decided to bring her daughter, Kaia. The two of them sat next to each other and colored. They didn't say much to each other the whole time. There happened to be an old phone booth in the place and they decided to check it out. That was it! After that, they were the best of friends. We'll have to get them together again sometime soon.

Move my Tonsils?

This morning Kailani had the pre-op appointment for her upcoming surgery. We met with the doctor and he explained what we could expect on the day of her surgery. On the way to the hospital, Kailani asked if her tonsils were in the wrong place. When I asked her why, she asked, "then why are they going to move them?" She's so cute. I then explained to her that the doctor was not going to move them, he was going to remove them. She'll go back to see the anesthesiologist next week and her surgery is scheduled for February 23. I hope we made the right choice. I think I am more nervous than she is!
Kailani and Zachary are so excited about the new blankets they received in the mail today. Thanks Nana!

The Star-Spangled Banner

Tonight we read The Story of "The Star-Spangled Banner." Kailani wanted to sing the song, so she and I sang it together. Afterwards, she said, "Mom, every time I sing that song I get little bumps all over my arms." So cute!

Cookie Sales

We thought we'd take advantage of a beautiful day and head to Balboa Park with a wagon full of Girl Scout cookies. Unfortunately, many other Girl Scouts had the same idea. We sold a few boxes, but I think we enjoyed walking around the park more. After Balboa Park, we headed to Liberty Station for some Coldstone. We walked around the NTC housing a few blocks and sold a few more cookies before heading home. So far Kailani has sold about 56 boxes of cookies. Her goal is 115 to get the t-shirt. We can do it!

Kailani's First Lost Tooth

Tonight Kailani lost her first tooth! She is so excited for the Tooth Fairy to come. **Update: The Tooth Fairy left Kailani 2 gold $1 coins. She decided to share with her brother since there were 2!
