Quiet weekend

I feel like we've had a few quiet weekends with the kids being sick and Kailani's accident; we haven't had much time to get out.
Today we had a birthday party to go to though. It was a first birthday party for Elina, the sister of one of the little girls who used to go to KinderCare. I try to keep in touch with the mom because Kailani was close to Nyah. The party was at Horizon Park, which is the park we used to go to often when we lived at our previous house. Kailani and Zachary had a good time playing at the park...even though Kailani is really not supposed to be playing. They each had a chance to hit the pinata, then we enjoyed some delicious cake.
Kailani is feeling much better. She has been able to use the lower part of her arm. She gets really excited when she realizes she can do things, like take her shirt off by herself.
Zachary is still growing every day. He's walking around like a pro. He's been completely finished with bottles for about 2 weeks now...even at bed time. No more baby stuff:(

Update on Kailani

Kailani is doing much better today. After much frustration with the hospital, she finally had a follow up around 1:30 this afternoon. Since the break is not that bad, she didn't even need a cast. She'll keep the sling on for about 3 weeks and she should be healed. We'll have to do a follow up in September just to make sure.
Zachary spent the day at school today since I didn't know what to expect when I took Kailani to the doctor. He painted a crab today. He also painted his shirt! I think it's so cute that he can sit at the little table and paint!
I signed Kailani up for her fall and winter aft classes today. The classes will start at the end of September. She is really excited to start those up again. I was planning to sign her up for swimming lessons because of how scared she was when we went swimming over the summer...but with her arm, that's not a good idea. I also signed Kailani and Zachary up for a "little tikes costume carnival." I am excited that Zachary is able to get involved in things like this now.

Trip to the ER...

We had such a wonderful day...who knew we'd spend the rest of it in the ER. Kailani fell off of the trampoline at Becky's house tonight. She cried for a while and said her shoulder hurt. She kept saying she couldn't move her arm, so I thought I better have her checked out. I never thought she would end up with a broken arm! She broke her left humorous; the bone between the shoulder and elbow. I am so glad I took her in rather than wait until the morning. For now, she has a sling and some Tylenol with Codine to help with the pain. The hospital will call tomorrow with an appointment time for Monday, when she'll be going for her cast. I feel so bad for her, but it actually wasn't as bad as I expected a break to be. In the hospital she was singing and playing games on my cell phone...after she had medicine:) She's strong so I'm sure she'll be fine.

Balboa Park

This morning we hung out at Balboa Park. One of the girls in the meetup group was doing 30-minute photo sessions for $25...all the money raised goes to our group for the annual Halloween Spooktacular:) Kailani was lovin' the photo shoot. Zachary didn't do too bad either. We walked around to find some great picture spots and stopped by the koi pond for a while. The kids enjoyed watching them swim around.
After our pictures, we went to the zoo for a while. We ate lunch and just walked around the children's zoo. I got Kailani a zoo keeper costume just like Zachary's...she decided to be a zoo keeper instead of Belle for Halloween. We already have a session booked at Picture People for the kids' pictures in their costumes like last year. We're planning to take some stuffed animals as props:)
As soon as the kids wake up from their naps, we're headed up to Becky's for Makenzi's birthday party. She already has some friends there who will be sleeping over, so we're just planning to go for the cake and presents.

Farewell Ms. Joy

The kids did really good all day today, so we decided to go have dinner at Chick-fil-A to say good bye to Ms. Joy. Tonight was her last night as the family night coodinator. The kids really enjoyed kids night with her. She knew them by name and was always excited when we arrived each Tuesday. We wish he family luck in Japan.

2 sick kiddos

Well, it's inevitable...the kids go back to daycare after being out all summer, and they get sick. Zachary was up all night sick on Friday and through the day on Saturday with a stomach bug. He was better Saturday evening, so we actually attended a birthday party for one of Kailani's friends on Sunday at Pump it Up. I was glad that Zachary got over it so quickly and excited not to have to use any sick days yet.
Then...we were up most of the night with Kailani last night. She came down with the same stomach bug. I had to cancel her 4-year check up at the doctor today and couldn't reschedule it until November. I thought Zachary was better, but this morning he had a 102 fever so I made a doctor appointment for both kids this afternoon.
Kailani has a stomach bug. She's doing fine now, but hasn't eaten all day. After she eats we'll really know how she's doing. Zachary is doing fine now too, but the doctor said what he has now is probably something different than the stomach bug he had over the weekend. Looks like I'll be using sick day #2 tomorrow, after only being at work for 8 days!
We're bummed because tomorrow is Ms. Joy's last night as the family night coordinator at Chick-fil-A. Her husband is being transferred to Japan. Tomorrow night is a going away party for her and I know Kailani would like to be able to say good bye.

Sesame Street Live

Tonight we had the opportunity to see Sesame Street Live at MCAS Miramar. I was able to duck out of work a little early so we could meet some of the girls at McDonald's for dinner before the show started.
The USO sponsored a few free shows for military families. The kids got a free Elmo light toy and USO bandannas. Kailani turned to me as the show started and said, "thank your for bringing me to the show!" The show was cute and just the right length for the kids. Zachary watched pretty intently and Kailani had fun dancing in the aisles.

A night out

Well, we're about to begin week 2 (a full week) back at school...as long as Zachary is not sick:( He had a fever this afternoon so I hope he isn't coming down with something. It was right after I went back to work last year that he got pneumonia. It's tough when they start back at daycare because they catch things so easily from the other kids.
We had a pretty quiet weekend, which we needed after the first week back at school. Saturday night, George volunteered to watch all four kids so Becky and I could go out with the moms group for a night out. We went to the Spaghetti Factory for dinner and to The Shout House, which is a dueling piano bar. We had a great time and it was nice to get out.

Great day at school

Kailani and Zachary had a great day at school today. Neither of them cried when I left them. Kailani was happy to see all of her friends. She already had a birthday invitation in her folder...for Pump it Up! Zachary jumped right in and started playing with the other kids. He's going to learn a lot...there are no cribs and no high chairs. He's growing up so fast.

Back to school

Today was going to be a day of relaxation, but we ended up running a few errands. Kailani wanted to spend some of the gift cards she received for her birthday. She picked out a "sing-a-majig". It's a stuffed animal that sings when you press on it's belly (one note each time you press the belly). She saw this yesterday at the Fisher Price event and really wanted one. Even though Zachary didn't have any gift cards to spend, he got a Toy Story chair to match Kailani's Dora chair. They can now sit together and watch TV. They had fun playing with the chairs when we got home.I can't believe our summer has come to an end! We've had so much fun spending time together that I hate it to end. Kailani and Zachary will return to daycare tomorrow. They'll both be in new classes. In a way, it really works out the way their birthdays and summer fall so they'll always return to a new classroom. I have a whole day of errands planned for myself tomorrow and I'll use Tuesday to finish anything I can't get to. I return to work on Wednesday. It shouldn't be too bad...the rest of the staff doesn't return until the 12th so it should be pretty quiet.
