Diaper Shower

Today I had a diaper shower for Becky at our house. It was supposed to be surprise, but she found out about it. She got a lot of diapers and other goodies she'll need for the baby. She'll be here before we know it (March 1). I'm pretty proud of the diaper cake I made:)

Girl Scout Cookies for Sale!

We picked up Kailani's girl scout cookies this morning. She has 10 cases (12 boxes each) to sell in order to reach her prize goal of a girl scout t-shirt. She's also hoping to "sell" at least 12 boxes to Operation Thin Mint that will get donated to troops. She's planning on going door-to-door with Jason tomorrow morning! Holiday helped me clean today:) She kept taking the duster out of my hand!

100th Day of School

Today was Kailani's 100th day of school. She was so excited. She made glasses shaped like the number 100 that she decorated with 100 stickers and/or stamps. She made a 100-piece trail mix to snack on.Tonight we went to see Toy Story 3 Disney on Ice at the Sports Arena. Zachary loved the last show we went to, so I knew he'd love it. He was clapping or dancing throughout the entire show. He had a blast!

No More Diapers for Zachy!

I think we can say that Zachary is officially potty trained! He's been wearing undies for about 2 weeks now, even during nap time. He is now telling us when he has to go potty. We'll continue with the pull-ups over night and when we're out somewhere a bathroom may be difficult to find, but...it looks like there will be no more diapers for Zachary! We've officially adopted Holiday. We're waiting for her medical records to arrive in the mail so we can get her in to see our vet. She and Bruno are best buds!

Rainy Day Marathon

This morning we did the kids marathon mile at Legoland, like we do every year. This was actually Kailani's 5th year participating. Unfortunately, it was pouring down rain! Although the weather was nasty, there were a lot of people at the race. Kailani ran the whole mile and Zachary rode in the stroller.

Japanese Hibachi

We all had the day off today to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr's birthday. We decided to have lunch with some of the moms from the meetup group at a Japanese Hipachi place. I've never been to one before, but I thought the kids would enjoy it. They both really liked watching their food made in front of them, and the food was yummy!

Ear Piercing

Kailani decided today that she wanted her ears pierced because all of the girls in her class have their ears pierced. She had her ears pierced when she was 8 months old, but when she got a little older, we took them out and she didn't want them to be put back in. We let them close and decided that when she was old enough, if she wanted, she could have them done again.
I took her to Claire's and she picked out a Hello Kitty pair of earrings. She did a great job...only a little tears after the first ear. She loves her new earrings!

Princess Kailani

Today we decided to check out a free event that was going on at the Disney Store. They invited little girls to come dressed up like princesses and participate in a craft. Kailani wore her Belle costume. They sang a few songs and then made a princess crown. Zachary wanted to make one too. This evening I went to dinner for a mom's night out. We went to a place in the mall called Stacked. It's a new restaurant where you create your own food. You order on an iPad and create your own burgers, salads, pizzas, etc. It reminds me of going to Wawa and ordering your hoagie on the computer screen. It was really neat. The food was good and I will definitely go back...with the kids next time:)

Winter Gala

This afternoon, KinderCare had their annual Winter Gala. This is the first year Zachary performed. I can remember Kailani crying the entire time during her performance last year. Zachary's class sang a song about a snowman and then they sang jingle bells. Surprisingly, he didn't want to run to us in the audience. He stood up in front and sang the songs and did the hand motions. He did a great job!Tonight we met up with Kailani's cheer coach to pick up her trophy. She was so excited because this is her first trophy ever. She has now decided she wants to cheer next season. I'm sure she'll change her mind 100 more times before the season starts.

Girl Scout Cookie Time!

Kailani had a Daisy meeting tonight. The girls got to taste every kind of girl scout cookie that they will be selling. She'll start selling cookies on January 29. The goal for each girl is at least 115 boxes of cookies so they can get the girl scout t-shirt. They each have to sell at least 12 in order to get the participation patch. Cookies are $4 per box and they are doing the Operation Thin Mint again where people can buy cookies that will be sent to the troops. If Kailani sells 12 boxes for Operation Thin Mint, she'll get a special patch.

Kaholo to the Right...

Wednesdays are going to be crazy for us for a while! Kailani has tumbling at 5 and hula at 6. Today was her second tumbling class and I can see a difference in what she's able to do already. It was her first hula class too. We had to leave tumbling early to make it to class on time. We had signed up for hula before we knew the cheerleaders where going to do tumbling. Kailani wanted to do both:) She had a good time at hula, although I could tell she was tired. Watching the class made me think of the time I took hula in Hawaii with my friend Heidi. I still miss it there!I am also proud to announce that Zachary made it through the day with big boy underwear at school! Hopefully we can cut back on pull-ups soon:)

iMeet the First Lady

This morning we started off with a visit to the dentist. Both kids did a fantastic job sitting in the chair to have their teeth cleaned, and no cavities for either of them. Kailani had x-rays taken of her front teeth. Over the holidays, she fell and hit her mouth on the ground. She didn't chip anything, but she did hit her teeth so that the two front teeth bled and became loose. The dentist just wanted to be sure there wasn't any trauma. Everything looked great and we were even able to see her "big girl" teeth coming in...which means her two front teeth will be coming out soon:)
After work, I took Kailani to the MCAS base to see a special showing of the iCarly show, which is a Nickelodeon show. Kailani had gotten into it more recently because Makenzi watches it. We saw an episode that hasn't yet been aired. The First Lady was in the episode. We also got to meet the entire cast. I am glad Kailani was able to have this experience. It was worth standing in line for 2 hours! *Kailani and Makenzi were on the Fox 5 news tonight:)Today was Kailani's last day of winter break. It's back to school tomorrow. I know she enjoyed staying home with daddy for a whole week.

Let the Savings Begin

We've been to Lowe's a few times for the workshops where the kids were able to make a wooden project. The kids enjoy those so much, we thought we'd try out the kids workshop at Home Depot this morning. They had tables set up outside the Home Depot store. It was pretty crowded, so it was hard to find a spot. The kids each got an orange apron and a hammer. They made a "savings shed." It's a bank that looks like a small house:) After they finished, they each got a pin with a picture of the project to put on their apron. This afternoon, we headed to Lakeshore for the free weekly craft. The kids made a calendar. We met up with some of the other military moms and had frozen yogurt at Yogurtland after the craft. The kids had a fun time running around outside of the stores.
Tonight I started a list of all of the free things I know of for kids in San Diego. There are so many things out there that people don't know about. I just found out that the Lego store in the mall does a free mini build each month. The kids get to build a mini figure and take it home. We didn't make it this week, but maybe we'll try next month. The website states the build is for ages 6-14 only. I'm sure Kailani could pass for 6, but I'm not sure if they would let Zachary do it. We'll check it out soon!

Turtles in My Sandbox

Unfortunately, this is my last day of winter break:( I will go back to work tomorrow and Zachary will go back to daycare. Kailani has one more week of vacation, so Jason took leave so we didn't have to put her in the YMCA.
Kailani went to her first day of "Turtles in My Sandbox" camp at the Chula Vista Nature Center today. She has one more day of the camp tomorrow. She got to pet a tortoise and feed sea turtles. We stayed and watched for an hour until the Nature Center opened.
After that, we left Kailani at camp and walked around by ourselves until she was finished. She had a great time and she's looking forward to going again tomorrow.
