Kailani is not thrilled about pictures anymore:(
We decided to trick or treat tonight at the Otay Ranch Mall and the Rancho Del Rey shopping center. It ended up being a lot better than walking around the neighborhood. Kailani took her costume off at school and didn't want to put it back on.

Happy Halloween
Happy Halloween! Today we walked the kids to school and watched them parade around the blacktop to show off their costumes. I was able to get a picture of Kailani's class before the parade, but I didn't get one of Zachary's. This is what happens when there are two different classrooms to visit!

Rough Week
We've had a somewhat rough week and I am glad it's the weekend! I took my car to the dealer on Monday because the air conditioning wasn't working. This is the 3rd or 4th air conditioning-related issue I've had with this car (and it's only 4 years old). It turns out that I had to pay $700 to fix the problem. While they were working on the air conditioning, they noticed a part on the engine that also needed to be replaced. Luckily that was covered by our warranty. I had to be without my car overnight and it was a challenge to share a car for just that long, but I have the car back now and everything works fine.
On Wednesday, the nurse called from Kailani's school concerned because she had a bright red rash on her cheek. I took her to the doctor and she was diagnosed with "slapped cheek syndrome" or fifths disease. Zachary had this over the summer. As it turns out, I don't really think that's what she had. She never broke out in a rash on her arms and legs and it was only ever one cheek. I think it may have been some sort of reaction to a bite or something. Anyhow...she's doing fine.
On Thursday morning, we woke up to Bruno throwing up several times. I contemplated staying home from work, but figured I couldn't take him to the vet until they opened anyway, so I went into work. Jason was able to check on him at lunch and ended up taking him to the vet. $700 later...Bruno is doing just fine. I think he ate some grass after the gardener had used fertilizer. I have to ask the gardener not to use fertilizer in the back yard for the safety of the animals and for the children. Bruno is still on medication and a special diet to calm his stomach, but he is acting normal.
I am ready for the weekend!!

Light the Night Against Crime
Today was the first playoff game for Kailani's football team. The boys did awesome and walked away with a 52-0 win. On to round 2!
After the game, we had a few hours to relax (although we spent the time running errands) before Kailani had to be at the gym for her 2-hour cheer practice. This was the last practice to prep for the competition.
Tonight we participated in the Light the Night Against Crime 5K. The race was to raise awareness of crime and support those who help keep us safe. There we displays from several police departments and related services. The kids were tired, but enjoyed the activities.

Brick-or-Treat
The kids have been wanting to go to Legoland for Brick-or-Treat, but we've been so busy with cheer prepping for cheer competition we haven't had a chance to go. Today was the last opportunity to go before it was over. We had to wait for the housekeeper to finish before we headed up, so we didn't end up getting there until after 6, but the kids still had fun. They wore their costumes (Iron Man and Elsa) and trick-or-treated at different stations throughout the park.

Pumpkin Patch
Today I went along on a field trip with Zachary's class to the pumpkin patch. The kids got to see the animals, take a hay ride, and pick a pumpkin. Zachary was very excited for me to go along and I am glad that I am able to do things like this.

Freedom Dogs
Today we went to a Girl Scout event. I went along as a driver and chaperone with one of the other moms. We took 12 girls with us. They learned about the Freedom gods "heroes to help our heroes through six different stations. The Freedom dogs are labs who are trained to work with marines who come back from war zones with PTSD and need the additional help to get around. The girls earned a fun patch for their vests. Kailani invited one of the cheerleaders (who is also a Girl Scout) to go along with us so she got a special "bring a buddy" patch. We had a great time.

Game 8
Today was the last regular season game. Unfortunately, Kailani and Zachary both had games at the same time in two different places. Jason took Zachary and I took Kailani. Flag won 33-0 and JPW won 36-0.
Tonight's SDSU game was against UH so we decided to go support my alma mater! The kids enjoyed sporting their UH gear. The game was late, so we only made it until halftime before we headed home.

It's starting to feel like fall
This morning we got up bright and early to volunteer at Heritage. It was Hawk Walk day and all kids who walked, rode bikes/scooters, or car pooled got a prize when they arrived at school. The kids and I handed out prizes to the kids. Zachary was part of an assembly line that handed out prizes as the kids walked/rode by.
After work, Jason and I headed back to the school to help set up for the Harvest Festival. We picked the kids up at the YMCA and they had some time to play games, eat, and pick out a pumpkin.
Kailani had cheer practice tonight. It's getting close to competition so we're trying to fit in as many practices as we can.
The evenings are getting cooler and it's starting to feel like fall!
