Honoring Veterans
Today the Cub Scout pack participating the a flag placing ceremony at
Glen Abbey Mortuary. We placed flags on all of the graves of military
members. The kids enjoyed reading the headstones to see which wars the
military members fought in.
Zachary turned 8 on Tuesday. I can't believe how quickly the time went by! Since we had school, activities, and Jason was at school, we decided to celebrate on the weekend. Zachary wanted to go to John's Incredible Pizza. We had lunch and the kids played games. Zachary won the jackpot (400 tickets)!

Last night I went to dinner with Diane and Juliette, who I used to work with at GSDA. I hadn't seen them in a while and it was nice to catch up. Jason took the kids out to Buffalo Wild Wings and I got this photo!

ACE Awards
Kailani received an ACE award today for citizenship. The teacher said she always completes all of her work and that she is kind to everyone. I am glad I was able to be there to see her receive the award.
Mr. Woodward (Interim Principal), Dr. Codrington (Associate Principal), Kailani, Sra. Portillo (homeroom/Spanish teacher), Ms. Guinn (English teacher)
Tonight some of the girls from Kailani's cheer team got together at Filipi's to say good bye to Aurie, one of their teammates. Their family is moving to Vermont. They girls will miss her.

Bugz Musical
The 2nd graders always put on a performance at the end of the year. This year, only the Spanish classes ended up participating in the Bugz Musical.
They stayed late at school last Friday to perform at the volunteer tea.
They performed for the school and for the parents today. They did awesome!

Chalk Festival
Every year our school does a chalk festival sponsored by the PTO. The classes usually draw a picture (based on a theme) on the ground in the front of the school. This year, they drew their picture on cardboard and it was framed. The framed pictures were to be auctioned off to raise money for the PTO.
This year's theme was World Wonders. The 5th and 6th grade classes had the option of creating two pictures.
I was sad not to be able to help this year. This week was just too busy and I already had to take too much time off.
Here is what the wall of pictures looked like:
I have to admit that I was a little sad not to see the artwork out in front of the school, but this wall looked amazing.

5/25 update: I won the silent auction for one of the pictures (#29) Kailani's class drew!

Kindness Rocks
Girl Scouts San Diego is participating in "100 days of Service." Our troop signed up to participate. For our day of service, the girls painted rocks and wrote kind sayings on them for the Kindness Rocks Project. They will then place the rocks around the community for people to find.

Beach and Bay
Today Becky and I ran the Beach and Bay half marathon. It was the first time for this race, so we were part of the inaugural run. It was such a beautiful run. I ran through parts of Mission Beach/Pacific Beach that I had never seen before.
I was not running this race for time, as Becky and I had planned to use this as a long run. After we finished, we collected our medals, stretched a little, and ran another 7 miles for a total of 20. This was the most we had ever run at one time. We are in full training for our marathon on June 4.

Wolf to Bear
Tonight Zachary had an award ceremony for Cub Scouts. He earned his Wolf and is now able to start working on his Bear requirements. Unfortunately I was not able to attend the ceremony because we had a Broncos board meeting. I told Jason he had to take at least one photo!

Crayon Initiative
Our Girl Scouts decided to work on their Bronze Award, which is the highest award you can earn as a Junior. Although they bridged in April, we decided to continue to work on Junior requirements until the official start of the new Girl Scout year on October 1.
For their project, the girls decided to bring the Crayon Initiative to their school. They plan to go farther with this, but wanted to start small. Since it is the end of the school year, it was a great time to start this at a school.
I am very proud of the girls for speaking with the principal about their plan and getting approval for implementing the program. They made flyers for each teacher, posters for the school, and collection boxes for each classroom. They plan to send the crayons to the Crayon Initiative, where they will be melted down and made into new crayons and donated to children's hospitals.
The girls eventually want to get collection boxes into community centers, churches, restaurants, etc. in our community.
