Crayon Initiative

Our Girl Scouts decided to work on their Bronze Award, which is the highest award you can earn as a Junior. Although they bridged in April, we decided to continue to work on Junior requirements until the official start of the new Girl Scout year on October 1.

For their project, the girls decided to bring the Crayon Initiative to their school. They plan to go farther with this, but wanted to start small. Since it is the end of the school year, it was a great time to start this at a school.

I am very proud of the girls for speaking with the principal about their plan and getting approval for implementing the program. They made flyers for each teacher, posters for the school, and collection boxes for each classroom. They plan to send the crayons to the Crayon Initiative, where they will be melted down and made into new crayons and donated to children's hospitals.

The girls eventually want to get collection boxes into community centers, churches, restaurants, etc. in our community.
