Military Moms group

Today we met up with the military mom's meetup group. This is the first time I've met any of the moms and kids that were there. We met at the Otay Ranch Town Center for water and chalk play. There is a fountain for the kids to play in and an area where they can write on the ground and on the walls with chalk. The weather wasn't too great...cloudy and cool. Kailani didn't go in the water, but she enjoyed the chalk. I met a few nice moms. One has four kids...the oldest will be in 1st grade next year and the youngest 2 are 16-month old twins. I'm not sure how she does it!
We went to lunch at Chili's and all of the kiddos were very well-behaved. We're going to try another meetup on Wednesday...one of the moms is having a patriotic craft party at her house. Kailani loves crafts, so I'm sure she'll have a blast.

Big sister

Today Kailani and I made her a Dora big sister dress and Zachary a baby brother onesie. They were really easy to make. The Nick Jr. website has lots of fun projects and activities that can be printed and done at home. I printed Kailani a Dora potty chart and a Dora fun pack about cleaning. I hope Dora can persuade her to start using the potty again and to clean up her toys after she is finished playing:)

Summer reading

I signed Kailani up for the summer reading program at the library last week. She's reading a little every day and keeping track on her reading log. The theme for this summer is "Be Creative" so the kids color in paint spots on a pallet for each 15 minutes they read. When they reach a certain number of hours, they get a prize.
The library has a bookmaking craft this morning, but I can't get her to leave the house. She wants to stay here and play. I don't want to force her to go because then she may not be too cooperative.
She decided she wanted to make cookies instead, so we're making flag cookies:)

Super mom

I've ventured out a few times with both kids and it wasn't too bad. I'm still nervous about going places where I can't use the stroller. I guess as time goes on that will get easier, and I'll get over it. One good thing about staying home is that we're eating in a lot more. It's so easy to eat out when you're running around. Thanks to my mom, I've haven't had to cook dinner yet...I am almost out of the meals she froze though:(
I watched Oprah yesterday (a repeat) and the show really made me stop and think. It was about a mom who left her 2-year old daughter in the car for 8 hours while she was at work. She was a vice principal heading to work for the first day back to school and she had planned to drop her daughter off at the sitter that morning because he husband couldn't. When she got on the road, she drove straight to work and forgot that her daughter was in the car. Her daughter died of heat stroke. My first thought was...how can you forget your kid in the car?
The mother explained that she tried to be "supermom" and wanted to be everything to everyone. She was always doing things for others. On the way to work she had even stopped to by donuts for her staff. The show made me realize that I need to slow down...many times I am on the road (or even at home) and I know I am going somewhere, but I end up somewhere else. I don't think I would ever leave my kids in the car (neither did this woman), but I need to remember that the kids come first...all the other stuff just isn't as important.

In need of a schedule

It's getting a little easier every day. At least I can shower in the morning and have lunch at a normal time. Zachary is having a hard time with gas pains. If we can get over that...he'll be fine. Kailani is having a good old time playing with her many many toys. She is having a hard time getting used to the fact that I can't jump up and get her whatever she wants right when she wants it. She's going to have to learn to do more for herself or to be patient.
I really want to get the kids on a schedule. Kailani has been off schedule since we moved into this new house. It's just a really difficult time to try and start something new. Hopefully by the end of summer we'll have some sort of schedule in place.
Kailani didn't nap today...she went upstairs to get ready for a bath. By the time I made my way upstairs, she had fallen asleep behind all of the pillows on my bed. I hope she stays asleep for the night. Zachary is sleeping now too, but he'll be up soon. Hopefully we won't have a reoccurance of last night...he was up most of the night screaming because of his gas pains...poor baby!

Zachary is 1 month old

Zachary is 1 month old today! I can't believe how quickly the time goes by. He's getting bigger and bigger and continuing to eat like a pig.

On our own

Daddy left today...on father's day! I'm not sure how we'll survive on our own, but we'll make it:) We're already looking forward to having him home for a few weekends in August
