Christmas in July

Today the ASYMCA hosted "The Christmas you Missed" event. The event is for families who had a parent deployed over the Christmas holiday. The entire theme was Christmas. There was music, food, crafts, activities, and Santa. The kids had a great time and we were able to celebrate Christmas in July as a family. Check out the news story. We have 2 local celebrities: http://www.10news.com/news/military/local-military-families-treated-to-holiday-redo-at-christmas-you-missed-event-in-tierrasanta-07262014

More birthday fun

The kids really enjoy walking to school. The school has bike racks. We got Zachy a bike lock so he can ride his bike to school.
The school has a partnership with Mission Federal Credit Union, which allows the kids to open bank accounts. Kailani and Zachary have a bank account at Navy Federal Credit Union, but I usually do the depositing. They know they have an account, but aren't too involved in it. The one at school allows them to make deposits of 1 penny and higher every Friday morning before school. Kailani and Zachary each opened an account today with $1 (the minimum to open was 25 cents). They each got a change purse to bring their deposits to school in. They got a register to keep track of their deposits. They also got bubbles as a prize for opening an account. They will get prizes as they hit certain milestone amounts.
Zachary got out of school at 12 today and Kailani didn't get out until 12:45. Instead of going home in between, Zachary used 10 Box Tops to purchase a popsicle. After he ate his popsicle, he rode his bike around the basketball courts at Heritage Park.
Kailani wanted to celebrate her birthday by going to John's Incredible Pizza. We had a buffet dinner and the kids got to play some games.

Happy Birthday Kailani!

Happy 8th birthday to my beautiful girl. I can't believe how quickly the time goes.
Unfortunately, I had a PTO meeting tonight and couldn't go out to celebrate Kailani's birthday. We plan to go out tomorrow night. Jason took the kids to Buffalo Wild Wings (Kailani's request). They had Kailani stand up on her booth and hold a flashing red light while they sang to her. She got ice cream and a chocolate brownie. I wish I had been there and I wish Jason had gotten a picture:(
When we all met at home later, we had cake to celebrate.

First Day of School

Today was the first day of school. I can't believe we have a 3rd grader and a kindergartener! It was challenging getting both kids to their classrooms since I wanted to take pictures and see both of them get settled in. I got a few pictures this morning, but then took more after school. Both kids had a great day.
Kailani has Sra. Diaz this year and is in room 602.
We are very happy that Zachary has Sra. Roberto this year (Kailani's K teacher). He is in room 402.

Last night we went shopping for all of the school supplies. We had a full shopping cart with supplies for two!
I wasn't sure what to do while both kids were in school. I'm still off until August 4. I had fun watching the animals:) Koa doesn't like to be upstairs alone, but he is scared to venture all the way downstairs because of the dogs.

Day at the Races

Today was kids day at the Del Mar Race Track. The kids each got a free stuffed horse when we arrived. They were excited that this year's horse was gray since last year's was brown.
The kids were able to participate in lots of different activities like golf, bounce houses, and rock climbing.

We were able to watch a few of the races, but within a few hours the kids were ready to go.

Go Broncos!

Today I helped out with the spirit gear distribution for the Broncos. This means the season is right around the corner!

Jason brought the kids up to Sports Authority to pick up their spirit gear. They were very excited to try it on.

With two Broncos this year, we will be very busy! Jason and I are also going to be assistant coaches for the kids' teams. There will be no rest for us until December.
While I was still volunteering, Jason took the kids to a magic show at the library to celebrate the end of the summer reading program. I met up with them there when I finished.

Fountain Fun

We haven't gotten out much over this break, so we're going to get as much in as we can over the last few days. Today we went to the mall so the kids could play in the fountain before we did a little shopping.

Beach

It's been a while since we've been to the beach. We headed to Coronado for a few hours and the kids had a blast. They took turns burying each other in the sand:) I wish we could go more!

NFL Experience

Today MCAS Miramar hosted an NFL Experience. NFL players got together and ran through practice and some fun events for all to watch. Some of the players who were there included Drew Brees (Saints), Darren Sproles (Eagles), and Carson Palmer (Cardinals). We had been standing in line for autographs and were fairly close to the front of the line when they announced that there would be 3 lines. Active duty in uniform would go through first, then active duty not in uniform, and then civilians. We weren't sure how long it would take for our turn and even if the players would sign for everyone who was there. We also didn't bring anything to be signed. Many people had footballs and jerseys. We decided to get out of line. We watched some of the players for a few more minutes before we headed out.

Train like an Astronaut

Today there was an event by NASA where the kids could learn about space and what it is like to be an astronaut. The kids got to meet a real astronaut. What a great experience!
