Super Star

Zachary has had a few rough days at school lately, so we were elated to see him come home with a "super star" sticker on his shirt. He was very excited to share that he was able to read an entire book to his teacher today. We are very proud of him!

JPW Blue Love

Tonight was our last official cheer practice of the year...bitter sweet. This is the first year that we won't be at the QBowl to cheer the JPW boys on. We wanted to do a little something for the boys to let them know that even though we won't be there, we will be thinking of them. The girls created a banner to send along with the team. We also decorated lollipops with a "good luck" tag to give to the boys.
After the boys finished practicing, the teams lined up to present each other with gifts. We didn't even know the boys were going to give the girls gifts. The boys presented the girls with a yellow rose and a "rally towel" folded into the shape of a bunny. Here was the cute message attached to a ring pop: "We are not HOPPY you can't be at the QBowl but we HOP you RING in a RALLY at regionals. Good luck!" We are so blessed to be part of a great organization. We wish the boys the best of luck. They will be playing the only team they lost to this season and the same team they lost to last year in the QBowl.

AJ's Kids Crane

Every year we donate toys at AJ's Kids Crane. The radio host goes up in a fork lift/crane and doesn't come down until they have collected a certain number (usually 100,000) today for Rady Children's Hospital. Since we all had off from work/school today we decided today was the day to go.

Otay Ranch Ohana

Today we celebrated Zachary's flag football season with a luau banquet at Mission Bay. We had a pavilion right by the water. The kids swam and played with squirt guns. We don't get to the beach often enough and the kids love it.
We ate a lot of yummy food (lumpia, pancit, etc.). We watched Tongan, Samoan, and Hawaiian dances. The boys were presented with awesome gifts. They each got a bag, hat, warm up suit, and kendama. Their trophies were hand-made by the team mom's husband. We stayed until it got dark and make a bonfire on the beach. The Otay Ranch Association truly is an Ohana.
Here are just a few things posted on our FB page from some of the parents that illustrate the kind of organization we are a part of:
What an amazing end to an incredible season. ORFB's banquet was by far the best we have been involved with. My hats off to Chris N Allison Buenviaje, Kathleen Hardin-Jenkins, Todd Jenkins, Roxanne Cota, Lana Masaniai Leilua, Senio Leilua, Summer Heras Bartolome and to all the parents for making this season so special not only for us as parents but for Mikey and the other boys as well. When we signed Mikey up, we had no idea how things were going to turn out. My other 3 kids play sports and most of the parents kept to themselves, rarely any interaction. But this FAMILY!!!!!!! WOW is all I can say cause I have no other word to describe it. The dads chopped it up with the dads and the moms did their thing as well. We haven't felt this close with a group of people we just met 5 months ago. The comraderie we have developed in such a short time is priceless. So Chris.....as I sit here waiting for your response as to where you are coaching next season pls know it's not only because I want you to coach Mikey again and I want the kids to stay together but more so because I want this OHANA to stay together for as long as it can. Y'all have made this team special. Sorry for the novel....but just had to get this off my chest. Hope to see Yall sooner than later or hopefully next season!!!!!! A Hui Hou!!!! Until We Meet Again.....

"WOW" is a pretty good way to sum up this season! I am humbled by all of your kind words and I truly don't even know where to begin giving thanks! As a Coach, one could only hope for the type of success we had on and off the field this season! To all of the players, thanks for believing in me and giving me the respect a coach asks for and expects in a championship caliber team! ALL of you have your own unique assets that make YOU all "beasts"! I can't wait to see what the future has in store for all of you STUDENT ATHLETES! To the parents, thanks for trusting me with your children and for your continuous support for our FAMILY! I have been blessed to have you all in my life and I will always remember this incredible season! Many of you have asked what my plans are for next season and I can honestly say, I don't know?! I do know that I will enjoy the next few weeks off and that my planning for next season will start sooner than later! Coaching is my passion and I am actually VERY EXCITED to start planning the 2015 season! Regardless of my decision, I encourage you all to come back to the greatest association in the County! The foundation for OUR family has been set so no matter what team our kids end up on we will ALWAYS be FAMILY! To the Coaches and Team Managers, I could not have done this without you! To come out and do this for FREE and out of the pure LOVE for your kids and others kids says it all! I will never take 100% credit for this successful season... This has truly been a TEAM effort!I hope to see you all sooner than later!
FAITH • FAMILY • FOOTBALL

Here are the goodies the kids got...the awesome center pieces, and the cakes:)

Showing off his awesome hand-carved trophy!
All the boys with their kendamas.

Jason's coach gift.
We look forward to next season with the Broncos. I am not sure if Jason or I will coach, but we will definitely be part of the Bronco Family. I will be moving on to the Executive Board next year and will be the Association Secretary. I look forward to continuing to help support such a great association.

Q Bowl Bound

Today was a bitter sweet day. The boys played in their third playoff game. The boys played well and beat Balboa 40-7. The team will move on to the championship game (QBOwl) next weekend, but the girls will not be there to cheer for them since the regional competition is also next weekend. We wish the boys good luck at the game.

Zachary loves to play his kendama and he is actually getting pretty good. This is how he kept busy waiting for the game to start:)

Veteran's Day Parade

Our family was invited to walk in a Veteran's Day Parade with the kids' school. We walked in front of Veteran's Elementary along with other schools, bands, cars, etc. I wasn't expecting it to be a full on parade. It was very hot and we waited a long time until it was our turn to walk, but the kids had fun. Zachary held a flag for a while and then carried a banner. We stopped at Chick-fil-A for breakfast before the kids headed back to school. Lots of people in the parade had the same idea:)

Jamboree Champs

Today was the flag jamboree. Instead of playoffs for flag teams, they do one jamboree game. Zachary's team played Inland Empire and won 26-0. Each team got medals for participation. All of the flag parents got together and donated items for a huge after-game goodie bag. Zachary loved it!

Kailani's team played Los Torros and won 44-20. They will move on to round 3 of the playoffs. Unfortunately, if the team wins that game and advances to the QBowl, the girls will not be able to cheer. They will be competing in the regional competition in Arizona that weekend.
