Recommended Black Belt

Zach tested for his recommended black belt this week, and earned it! The belt ceremony was this evening. Recommended black belts have to earn 3 stripes before they can test for black belt. He's hoping to earn his black belt by the end of this year. We are so proud of him!

Zach and Jayden have become really good friends through PT3, the competition team.

Apex Run

Each year, Zach's school holds an Apex fun run to raise money for the school. The 5th graders were on a field trip when the school had the event, so they did a special event just for the 5th graders.

I was able to volunteer to help mark laps for the kids. Zach did over 50 laps, although when we make a pledge, it's only for a max of 36 laps.

 

Summit Bid Reveal

The Summit is the superbowl of cheer. Kailani's old cheer gym tried for year to make it to Summit, and wasn't able to. Only a very small percentage of cheer teams are offered bids throughout the competition season. One of Kailani's goals for the new cheer gym was to make it to Summit.
Since Riot did so well at the competition in Pomona, they were offered a Wild Card Bid. Wild Card teams compete on Saturday, May 2 at Walt Disney World in Orlando. The top 5 Wild Card teams in each division advance to the finals on Monday. Kailani is super excited to finally see what Summit is all about.
CheerForce help a bid reveal party to watch Varsity announce the bid winners live. We celebrated with 2 other cheerForce teams that also received bids.

Lululemon 10K

Today we ran the first Lululemon race in the US. Lululemon is an athletic apparel store that started in Canada. Apparently they've had several races in Canada already, but decided to have the first race in the US in San Diego. It was a very nice race.

 

Becky's son, Cody, was in the cast of Wizard of Oz as the Scarecrow. We went to support him in the show tonight. 

UCA Southern CA Championships

Today Kailani had a cheer competition in Pomona. This was the first competition of the year. Riot (J2) did amazing, and took 1st place. Ferocious also did great, but came in with 2nd place.

Star of India

Zach's class went on an overnight field trip to the Star of India, an old sailing ship that is now a museum in the harbor. They learned what life was like on the ship; even standing watch in the middle of the night. I didn't go on the field trip, but some of the parents shared photos.

Quarry Crusher

Last year, I did this fun run right in our own neighborhood. They offered the run again this year, and Kailani wanted to check it out. We ran a 5K through the quarry. We live super close to the quarry now in the new house.
This is a tough race. The offer a 10K as well, called the double crusher. I did that last year, but many people don't do that. It's very hilly because you run down into the quarry and then back out (up the hills).
