Chula Vista Fun Run

Today Kailani and I ran the Chula Vista Fun Run at the Chula Vista Elite Athlete Training Center (formerly the Olympic Training Center). The boys were supposed to run also, but they ended up going camping with Cub Scouts. Since we had extra bibs, Kailani invited Kaia to go along. We had a good time, as always.

5:25 update: Here are a few pictures from the camping trip: The pack got rained out and had to come home a day early.

Girl Scout San Francisco Trip

This weekend, Kailani and I traveled to San Francisco to participate in the Junior Girl Scout bridging event. The San Francisco Girl Scout council invites troops from all over CA to join each year. Our girls have been talking about this trip since they were Brownies.
We flew up on Friday morning and headed straight out to Fisherman's Wharf for shopping and lunch. The girls worked really hard to save money for the trip and they put in a lot of hours creating an itinerary. We took a tour of Alcatraz, ate at Joe's Crab Shack, and stopped at Ghirardelli Square for ice cream.

On Saturday, we were shuttled to the Oakland side of the Golden Gate Bridge and we walked across to transition from Juniors to Cadettes. It was such a surreal experience.
After crossing the bridge, there was a huge event, with lots of activities for the girls to participate in. They made swaps, flew kites, and lots more.

After the Girl Scout event, we headed to Chinatown, where we visited the Golden Gate Fortune Cookie Factory and ate dinner. Since the girls had walked so much, we rewarded them with more Ghirardelli's!

Many of the girls left on Sunday morning, but Kristin, Kaia, Kailani, and I stayed for the day to so more. We went to Coit Tower to see a 360 degree view of the city. We took a tour of Anchor Brewery (definitely not on the Girl Scout itinerary), and stopped to see a few innings of the Giants/Padres game. On the way back to the hotel, we took a quick tour of Boudin Bakery.

Unfortunately, around this time, we received an email that our flight was delayed (from 8:45pm until 12am). We were tired and ready to go home, so we headed to the airport anyway and hung out at the USO. I have never been to a USO before and it was totally worth it. The girls kept saying it didn't feel like they were at the airport. Coincidentally, we visited on the very last day of Jason's active duty service. I think the USO is only for active duty, so we will not be able to use the services on future trips to the airport.

We finally flew out of San Francisco around 12:55am. Kailani and I took the day off on Monday to recuperate. Southwest provided each of us with $200 in credit for a future flight for the inconvenience. We will definitely use that!

While we were away for the weekend, the boys had some of their own fun!
