Kona Ice

Today we arranged for the Kona Ice truck to come to the school to sell shave ice. There was rain in the forecast, but Kona Ice still wanted to make the trip. Just as school was letting out, the rain started coming down. At one point it was really coming down. It didn't stop the kids! They stood in the line, in the pouring rain for the Kona Ice!

ACE Award for Effort

Today Zachary received an ACE award for "effort in all subject areas." I am so glad I was working at Heritage this week and that I was able to step out of class for 5 minutes to watch him get his award. Congratulations to Zachary!

Starlight Parade

Today me and the kids drove up to La Jolla to meet some friends. My friend Jenn (who I met in HI, but now lives in FL) was in town for a conference. We met up with her and a few other friends from HI who now live in San Diego. The kids played at the park and even went into the water a little. It is so nice to have such perfect weather, even in the winter!

**I'll post a picture of the ladies after I get it from one of the girls.

Tonight our Girl Scout troop walked in the Starlight Parade in downtown Chula Vista. There were over 100 groups who participated in the parade and over 200 Girl Scouts. Jason and Zachary watched from the street along with Kevin and his family. Kristin and I walked in the parade with the girls.

Sleepover

Tonight Kailani had her first sleepover. Kailani and Mikaela have been buddies for the last 3 years and are in cheer and Girl Scouts together. Mikaela's mom is in the Navy and they will be moving to Florida in January. The girls wanted to have a sleepover to spent some more time together. They went to dinner at John's Incredible Pizza and had a blast.

While Kailani was at her sleepover, we took Zachary to Cub Scouts. Jason volunteered to be the leader!

Santa Store

Tonight we headed downtown for the USO Santa Store. This is provided every year for active duty military. They provide dinner and pictures with Santa. The kids can then "shop" in a store for gifts for each parent.
We have participated in the Santa Store since Kailani was 4 (the minimum age). Unfortunately, next year will be the last year for both kids. Kailani will be 10 (maximum age) and Jason will not be active duty anymore (most likely).

BINGO at the Veterans Home

Tonight Kailani's Girl Scout troop volunteered at the Chula Vista Veteran's Home. The girls (and Zachary) helped the residents play BINGO. Some of the residents were able to manage their BINGO cards on their own and some needed more help. Zachary's friend won $20 on one game and gave Zachary $1 for helping.
The Elks Club passed out stockings filled with gifts to all of the residents (some got more than one). Zachary's friend got two stockings, so he gave Zachary one. The kids all had a great time and want to go back again.
Unfortunately, we did not take any pictures:(
