I thought we were having a nice, relaxing weekend, but ended up in the ER again. Zachary was walking on the carpet and slipped as he stepped on to the hard floor. He fell backwards and hit his head. I picked him up to hold him. He cried for a little and then threw his head back and stopped breathing. I was yelling at him to "breathe!" His face started to turn blue and then his head dropped. His whole body went limp. I laid him on the floor and it almost looked as though he was having a seizure. His body tensed up, but he wasn't shaking at all. His eyes kept opening and closing. We freaked out and called 911 (Becky and the kids were here).
We went to the ER and Zachary was checked out. The doctor said he was fine. The passing out was probably just a result of his lack of breathing when he stopped crying. At the hospital he was acting normal...I almost felt embarrassed that we went, but I am glad I got him checked out.
The carpet guy is coming tomorrow to finish the carpet. I noticed the paint is bubbling and cracking in the office and that there is mold on the well. I really hope someone can come out to take care of that. I wish they had taken this whole situation a little more seriously and had things checked out right away.
I hope things get better as the week goes on.

In the great swimming pool of life...
I feel like my life has been turned completely upside down! The air conditioning is finally fixed and I am enjoying the coolness. There was a leak in the upstairs bathroom pipes. The plumber was able to fix that yesterday. Apparently a nail that was through the pipe had rusted, which caused the leak. The water had leaked into the upstairs bathroom, which caused the wet carpet. The water had also leaked down the wall and into the garage as well as the office. The carpet is torn up in the upstairs bathroom and the office. I didn't realize the office floor was wet until last night, so I was scrambling to clear everything out of the office before the carpet guy came this afternoon. I am a little overwhelmed with the complete chaos, but I keep thinking things will get better.
Zachary is feeling better. His fever is gone and he is up running around (not now of course, because he is sleeping). He was still a little clingy today and wanted to be held a lot so I know he's not 100% himself.
We've cancelled all of our plans this weekend. I was supposed to go to a domino tournament tonight. The money was going toward the meetup group's Halloween party and to the winner of the tournament. I didn't think Zachary was up to going. We were supposed to go to Chick-fil-A for breakfast tomorrow...in all the times we've been to Chick-fil-A, it's never been for breakfast. If Zachary is feeling up to it, we may still do that tomorrow. The playroom is "unplayable" since all the office furniture is taking up the floor space. Sunday I was set to host a kids game day...Kailani always wants to play games when the moms do a game night. I bought all the stuff to make root beer floats. Obviously the house is in no state to host a party, so I've postponed it until next Sunday. Hopefully I can get the house back together by then. The carpet guy will be coming back on Monday to finish the carpeting and move the furniture back.
I think Kailani is going a little stir crazy being in the house so long. She's used to being on the go. I think she'll be happy once we can get out and about again. I think we'll do something with Becky and the girls on Sunday because George has duty. We may consider going out since the house is a mess:)
I received a card from my Gram today and I thought the saying was appropriate..."In the great swimming pool of life...there's always going to be a little pee."

Another trip to the ER
Well, there's always something going on here...I'm waiting for that break we're going to get! Sunday night Zachary had a slight fever so I gave him some Tylenol before bed. Monday morning he still had a low fever, so I kept him home from daycare. Right before we were supposed to go to the doctor for his 15 month check up, he ended up having a seizure. I called an ambulance because his breathing didn't seem normal. No matter how many of these we go through, they all scare me. I thought calling an ambulance would be better than trying to take him to the hospital myself, with Kailani. When the EMTs arrived, his temperature was 102.6. I guess at some point his temperature got all the way up to 105! Kailani and I followed the ambulance to the hospital. It turns out that Zachary has pneumonia. He had a little cough over the weekend, but nothing I was too worried about.
Zachary is doing okay, but he still has a fever. It's been tough to keep it down even with Tylenol and Motrin. I hope the antibiotic starts working soon. Looks like we'll be out of work/school for the rest of the week.

Cat in the Hat
After breakfast we needed to waste some time, so we decided to walk around the zoo for a while. We walked around the children's section and then ate Subway sandwiches we brought.
Around 2pm, we headed over to the Old Globe Theater in Balboa Park for a sneak peak showing of The Cat in the Hat Knows a lot About That. It's a new show airing on KPBS. The Cat was there for pictures...of course Kailani wouldn't get close enough for the picture. We saw the sneak peak and then the kids all got free pop-up books. Kailani and Zachary got Horton Hears a Who. We had a really nice day:)
It's back to work and school tomorrow. Zachary and Kailani have check ups tomorrow, so we'll see how much they've grown since the last time.
Hopefully we'll be able to get someone in here to take a look at the leak in the garage. The floor in the upstairs bathroom is all wet and I am not sure it that is related.

Is the streak of bad luck over yet?
Today we got some caterpillars in the mail. Megan got Kailani a caterpillar kit for her birthday and we had to order the caterpillars. Surprisingly, there were 2 containers of caterpillars; so Kailani and Zachary will each have their own. We decided we're going to take pictures along the way and make a book of the different stages; caterpillar, chrysalis, and butterfly.
It's always one thing after another...First it was the stomach flu with the kids, then Kailani's broken arm, now...I came home this afternoon to a flooded garage again. Last summer the air conditioner leaked in the garage and it is doing the same thing now. I changed the filter and was hoping that did the trick, but it was still leaking. Hopefully with the air conditioning off all night, it was able to fix itself. We'll try again today.

Lucky me
We made it through a full week without anyone getting sick or hurt! I might be asking for it by mentioning that though...Zachary seems to be coming down with something. He's got a cough and had a slight fever tonight. I really hope it's nothing.
I was able to go out to lunch with some people from work after our staff meeting today. It's so nice to be able to go out once in a while and not have to run around like crazy doing errands before picking up the kids.
When I came home tonight, I had a message on the phone from the Family Magazine. I won a family 4-pack of tickets to Disney Live Mickey's Magic Show. I entered the contest about 3 or 4 times even though I could have entered once per day for the month of August. Lucky me I guess! We were planning to go to the show anyway, I just hadn't bought tickets yet. The show is for 6:30pm on the 17th, so we won't be able to go to KinderCare's welcome back BBQ this year. I would have preferred the 3:30 show because I am sure the evening show will be busier. Disney on Ice is also coming here in October, but we decided to skip that with everything else that is coming up in September and October.
Kailani is officially in Pre-K now. She'll begin the official school program next week. This week she worked on an "All About Me" poster to prepare for the first unit. She'll be able to bring an item in each week for show-n-tell that begins with the letter of the week. She's excited about that and already has her "letter A" item picked out. I can't believe how fast she's growing up.
Besides his little cough, Zachary is doing well. He's starting to say some words clearly..."no" and "boom." He starting to get a little attitude when he doesn't get what he wants.
Tomorrow we're heading to Lakeshore to do the art project and then to have some dessert at Yogurtland.
